Long time ago....
It;s been a while since I've been here.... I am an old man who took up trying to make a quilt a year or so ago. I don't recall what I ever spoke about here, but I signed up! I made a quilt/blanket (no pattern running throughout the blanket, just tee shirts sewn together with a flannel backing) from Hooters tee shirts. Then my wife told me I had to do one for our daughter with MSU tee shirts. Never went much further than that until this spring. My quilting mentor "guilted" me into making masks for this crap going around. I used my granddaughters sewing machine but was having difficulties going through many layers of fabric. So dumb me saw an add at Joann for a Singer 4452 on sale for less that was on sale for less than $200. And it was a heavy duty, so I bought it. Made masks.... first ones really sloppy but eventually got better. Once all family had masks, plus a few others, I started looking into bags/pack/pouches. So I think I have fallen into this trap of sewing for enjoyment!! I'm learning, I enjoy it, and want to do more. I recently pinched nerve in my back, so I sit here trying to look for/at things on computer and found this site again. So I will try to be around a little bit and raise some he...heck!
Don't say I didn't warn ya! I will ask stupid questions and look for someone who is knowledgeable about these new and different fabrics and tricks. Be patient with me!!! Thanks! |
ask away!!! :)

Welcome back.
|
Welcome back to the board. There's lots of knowledgeable people on this board.
|
Welcome back, Spartanden! Glad you found us again.
I got guilted into making some masks too. Hated doing it and hated wearing one. I'm done with it. We have lots of quiltmakers here, but also bag makers, so you are in good company. Have you tried any of the "byAnnie" patterns? I love her bag patterns and have made several. |
Welcome back Spartanden.

Welcome back!:)
|
I think you need to get a vintage Singer Spartan. 192.
|
Welcome back from a short time away. (I took off for several years) I live in SE Michigan, sorta Spartan Country. Any way ask away and give that new machine of yours a good work out and you enjoy this new endeavor. I look forward to seeing a great deal of you here.

Glad to have you here. I think your posts are going to be a lot of fun!
|
Just ask your questions and you will find that everyone here will give you ideas, advice and help in any way they can.

Nice Spartan!!! Never heard of this machine, but then, I don't know much anyhow!! Looks similar to my old Singers!!
|
Spartan is a cheaper version of the Singer 99. Minus a light and fewer pretty decals. It is a Singer 192.
|
Hence the name Spartan! They call us cheap when we are being Spartan!!! Thanks for the info.

Welcome back 🙋♀️ waving from NE Ohio.

There are no stupid questions........ask again and again until you understand the answer(s). I don't know where I'd be without the wonderful people on this forum. Enjoy your craft......rest when you're sore(Aleve works for me), and then when you're rested, get back in the game. It's fun!!!

Male tailors have made their living with sewing. So, don't let anyone jab you for sewing. Men seem to bring a wonderful "eye" to quilting and sewing that women don't. I always enjoy having them on the board to see their work.
So welcome and have some fun with us here on the quilting board. |
Be careful what you ask for!!! I spend a lot of time on a Harley forum and have been known for some sarcastic remarks!!! In all honesty, I try to be helpful and I try to learn from others. But I will try to look on here daily and see if there is any worthwhile information y'all can give me. And perhaps tell/show you some of the crap I'm coming up with!! For example I did find some vinyl material from JoAnn Fabric and I am gonna try a small bag to see how this sews on my machine. I been trying to figure out how to make a template that fits my tank so I can sew up a prototype cover. There are some curves and arcs I'm trying to figure out. Oh well.... it's not like I have a lot to do at this time anyhow!!
Thank you all for the warm welcomes..... please don't throw me out down the road!!! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png |
