Look What I Found in the Clearance Section
1 Attachment(s)
I was at my local Wal-Mart looking for "clearance" plants and found these six kittens instead. After asking the employees at the store about them, I guess there is a local cat that "dumps" them there. They were happy for me to take them.....husband not so sure. They are just opening their eyes and are doing well on a bottle.

Awwwh! Sweet little babies! What a kind heart you have. Bless you for taking them.
|
I am glad they have found someone to care for them. In this economy, more pets are being dumped. The same people that dump them are the same people who won't get their animals spayed or neutered.
|
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! So cute ,they are so little. It was wonderful of you to take them. All my house kitties have died(OLD AGE) My hubby won't let me replace them.
|
And calicos at that! :)

How do you know the mom was not taking care of them? They look healthy. She is probably wondering what happened to her kittens.
|
Oh they are adorable!! I hope they all find good homes.

Oh...so sweet. I wouldn't have been able to leave them either!
|
They are a handsome , you're a great person. Barb

am I the only one who is worried the kittens got taken away from their mom? If she is a typical feral cat she would vamoose when people come by, so the workers would not see her, just the kittens, and assume she "dumped" them. I don't think too many mother cats do that to kittens that young.
I am glad you are bottle feeding them but if they had stayed with their mom, it wouldn't be necessary. |
Don't jump down HensandHollyHocks, she felt she was doing a good deed based upon response from workers. The kitten are adorable, your great for taking care of them.
|
oh they are so cute ,hope they all make it mighty young aren't they

Such little dolls. Thank you so much for giving them a home.

Even if their mom was still around, think of the life they would've had - not all would've survived, and the rest would've become just as wild - and would've continued the cycle of adding more poor stray kittens to the world. Maybe one thing that could still be done is see if a live trap could be set in that area (just during the day so you don't catch racoons or skunk). Mama needs help too!
If you contact your local humane society, they may know of a low cost spay/neuter clinic that could help too. I have an appt to fix our feral mom and young ones - hopefully the feral dad too if we can get him. The cost for all of them, including shots, will be about what it would cost to have ONE done at a local vet. Thank you for caring! |
I'd say you got the best deal in the store and those pretty kittens did great getting you. God Bless You. So wonderful of you & the little ones.

Archie must have been the runt of the litter because he was the size of a week old kitten (though his eyes were open) and you could feel every one of his little vertebrae. Absolutely skeletal. He was so malnourished that he had no hair on his tail or belly. He ate, pooped and pee'd (with help) and slept for a week. He would lay in his box without stirring and more than once I was sure I'd open it to find him dead. The Mama and the other two kittens had been coming down at night and eating out of our stored cat food so they were comparatively healthy and about three times the size of this little guy. Unfortunately, the Mama and one of his siblings were hell-aciously wild and we had to turn them over to our local no-kill shelter. The second kitten (Alf) was wild until we caught him but calmed down when we held him and has been slowly but surely learning to trust us. Archie thinks I am his mama and sleeps under my chin every night. My husband says it is just like having a newborn again. He also says he is "More rat than cat" because his tail is bare. lol We plan to keep Archie and Alf. I shudder to think what their life could have been like. |
You are heaven sent. What a nice thing to do.

And who thought you could only get fish at Wally World?

I can keep two of them. I have another spoken for, and I think I should have no problem giving the others away. My Veterinarian is a friend of mine and he helps me with numerous projects. I'm sure he can't wait to help with kittens!

Even if they were being taken care of by a feral mother, they would then grow to be feral too. Not something many communities are okay with. Don't worry, they will be placed with good homes who want a cat.

Now the mom is still out there, unspayed, and will probably have another litter. |
we took in a mamma and her two girls. she was raising them on her own and very scared of people. she wouldn't let me near the kittens. the two girls were all she had left of who knows how many in her first litter. They all live in our house now and the two kittens are still a bit shy. Especially one. but they all get lots of loving and food and i take mamma out on a leash every day. she is so sweet and loving now. I couldn't do without them.
I should add, all of them are fixed. we weren't sure mamma would stay with us or insist on going back to live on the street. got her fixed, either way. But she loves having a safe haven. |
Adorable babies!
