I was picking up a friend yesterday to go to a quilting class & this little dog was on the side of the road. My friend says she thinks she saw when she was dropped off on the side of the road. She has had puppies very recently. I decided if she was still there when I dropped her off at home again later that afternoon I would pick her up. Sure enough sweet thing she was on the side of the road watching as tho she were looking for someone. I stopped, she came over, and her she is!!! I did look around where I found her for puppies but found or heard none. She did not seem anxious or anything since I picked her up. She is getting along GREAT with my 2 cats and my other dog. Don't know yet if we will keep her or find her a good home. She looks like a mix of yellow lab & bassett hound in a way. She LOVES LOVES LOVES belly rubs & you can hear her tail banging everywhere as it is in constant WAG.

What a cutie! She was waiting for YOU!
Too bad no puppies were found.
I sure hope they aren't found later....if you know what I mean.
I just don't understand HOW people can do that to an animal!

quiltwoman 06-03-2009 02:22 AM

Awww.....she looks so happy. I am sorry she found you under such horrible circumstances. you did a very good thing. :D

Quilt4u 06-03-2009 02:38 AM

So glad you found her. Looks like she was waiting for you.

Celeste 06-03-2009 03:07 AM

She sure is a cutie! We had a furry baby like her-- happy! All you had to do was just look at her and she was doing the tahitian fast dance!

Have you tried to see if she has the ID chip? All veterinarians should have one, and if one shows up there's an 800 number to call. My parents lost two of their dogs and they were gone from Saturday morning to Wednesday am.

Turns out someone picked them up Saturday morning about a mile away then drove them to their home two hours away. Didn't bother to call the 800 # on their collar until Wednesday morning.

I hope that this little cutie has an ID chip. Either way, she sure is blessed you stopped for her. Lots of hugs and kisses to her and Little Girl! (and the cats if they want any...)

CajunQuilter2 06-03-2009 03:11 AM

thanks for the info about the chip. would not have thought of that right away as little girl does not have one, but after today she will. This one looks like you can see where a collar once was. I am gonna give her a few days to settle in and will take her to the vet to check for chip & tested for heart worms. If she is good I will start her on heart worm meds.

PrettyKitty 06-03-2009 03:57 AM

Aahhh, Myrna, what a loving look that dog is giving you! Keep us updated as to if you find out if the dog is lost and if you end up keeping her.

beachlady 06-03-2009 04:05 AM

She lloks so relieved to be with someone who cares!

sewjoyce 06-03-2009 04:55 AM

She is just too cute!! I'm not sure I could give her away!

gaigai 06-03-2009 05:01 AM

Myrna, what a sweetheart you are. No doubt you saved "Snowy" from getting run over. Poor baby, I hope the people who dumped her rot in H-E-Double Toothpicks!

Obviously you were at the right place at the right time! Sounds like my tagline!

Mplsgirl 06-03-2009 05:04 AM

What a beautiful little face! Don't know if I would return her to the people who just threw her away.

sandiphi 06-03-2009 05:56 AM

I just don't understand how a person can abandon an animal or a child. It just baffles me that people can live with themselves after doing such a terrible thing. I read these stories about the abuse that children and animals take and I just want to do the same thing to those people. I know that is terrible of me, but I can't help it. How can a person set a dog on fire, or abuse a child in a way they don't deserve is just beyond my comprension.

But, kuddos to you Myrna. We need more people like you. I probably would have done the same thing.

kwhite 06-03-2009 06:02 AM

She is beautiful. I worry about the puppies though. If they dumped her what must have become of the pups?

Shemjo 06-03-2009 06:23 AM

What a cutie. Don't wait too long to find out if she is chipped. You don't wnat to get too attached if she just wandered away! :?

littlehud 06-03-2009 07:12 PM

I think you were sent to her, or maybe she was sent to you. Either way, if she is not chipped, I would keep her. She was meant to be with you.

amma 06-03-2009 07:17 PM

She is such a cutie, I hate that people do such things as this, she is so lucky that you came along to rescue her

canmitch1971 06-03-2009 07:38 PM

This just breaks my heart. She is lucky that you found her Cajunquilter2. Poor little thing!!!

CajunQuilter2 06-07-2009 12:34 PM

Took "Angel" to the vet. No chip, no heart worms, no parasites. He said looks like pups were weened about a month ago & she just did not have her figure back yet.  So I will run an add in the paper. I figure if she was just dropped off no one will answer. If no one answers she's mine. She gets along wonderfully with the 2 cats and my Little Girl(the one in my avatar). She is a very happy loving dog. She greets everyone she meets, tail always wagging--you can hear it banging.

sewjoyce 06-07-2009 02:52 PM

Awww, glad Angel is OK!! Sounds like she's found herself a great home!!

QuiltyLisa 06-07-2009 03:10 PM

God bless you for picking her up. It rips my heart out how people can just dump poor helpless pets off. The god lord put her there just because he knew a kind heart like you would come along.
That fur baby hit the jackpot by finding you.

Lisa

pocoellie 06-07-2009 06:24 PM

What a cutie and what a good person you are. I personally think that people who dump animals, should be shot. Thanks for rescuing her.

omak 06-07-2009 07:26 PM

She probably spooked up from somewhere for whatever reason, her litter may have been her first, and she may have gotten confused or whatever.
If she has been out by herself long enough, the babies have either died, or the coyotes and crows had a good meal while she was whelping.
Our Indy dog had been out on her own so long that she was actually gray for lack of nourishment. She is a german shepherd, and is a definite tan, but has no saddle ... anyway, she had recently whelped, as your dog seems to have, and she didn't act like she had anywhere to go, either.
Enjoy your new pet <g> ...
I don't know how populated your area is, we are out six miles from town ... in high desert ... if you have a good vet, taking her to him will answer some of your questions.
We took INdy to the Humane Society for a week to see if her owners would show up - - and told them, if no one shows, we want her back. When we got her back, they had spayed her. We took her to our vet and he made a comment "Well, they didn't do her any favors with that spay job, did they?"
I never asked him what he saw or meant, but I knew that I would NEVER take another dog to the humane society ... animals don't live long enough under the best of lives to have to deal with sloppy, careless work. If you really care ... take your dog to a good vet ...
Congratulations, by the way <g>. You got a fine looking animal!

key4unc 06-08-2009 02:24 AM

She looks like a very loving dog (wrapping her paw around DH's hand as he scratches her belly). How could you not fall in love with a dog like that?

k3n 06-08-2009 02:35 AM

What a beautiful girl! Just look at the love in her eyes. IF she was dumped, I'd like 10 minutes alone in a room with the people who did it, oh and a big stick! But it seems whatever she's gone through, she's landed on her feet now. Well done you!

reneebobby 06-08-2009 03:05 AM

she is so cute

Bevanger 06-08-2009 03:48 AM

How can someone leave a precious baby like that on the side of the road no doubt. GRRRRRRRRRRRR :x She was waiting for her new mommy to come get her and love her

cathyvv 11-20-2010 08:53 AM

This pup was lucky you stopped for her!

We got a mutt from the pound about 20 years ago. She is long gone, but her story was a sad one. Seems she was abandoned on the side of the road, with her doghouse and 11 puppies, in cold November. 10 of the puppies died - who knows how long she and they were there before someone finally picked them up and took them to the pound?

She was the sweetest dog you could ever want! So even tempered, so well behaved, so loving, and was an important part of our lives while she lived. Now she is a very good memory...

ljsunflower 11-20-2010 12:25 PM

Awwww, she is so cute! There are some heartless people in this world. Glad you're not one of them.

bearisgray 11-20-2010 12:29 PM

How is dog doing now?

Ramona Byrd 11-20-2010 12:32 PM

Probably what happened was that her puppies were sold or given away, it's easier to get rid of puppies than adult dogs.

My daughter has a gorgeous Boxer she found on the side of a road in Texas. Sammy was about 3 months old and starving, so of course she picked him up. She held him so he would eat enough, and now at about 70 pounds or more the big baby still wants to sit in the chair with mommy when she is reading.
No one ever came forth to claim him, so he lives with 2 other rescue dogs in the house most of the time. DD is very glad to have him right now, her DH retired from Army and is getting a higher degree at a far away University so what sounds like a pack of big wolves are good to have around at night.

Awww, what a sweetie!

ashlett 11-21-2010 12:16 AM

I do hope you keep her, poor thing must be so confused.

Sunflower Girl 11-21-2010 02:03 AM

FYI Our local animal shelter will chip animals for a nominal fee. I had my kitty chipped and it was only $15. The vet was $65.00. Just a less expensive alternative!

Chasing Hawk 11-21-2010 08:01 AM

Oh my gosh, how precious.

p38flygirl 11-21-2010 04:24 PM

Thank you for picking her up...She is very grateful, I suspect...

IBQUILTIN 11-21-2010 04:35 PM

She is adorable, I would not be able to part with her. Bet she will be under your skin before you find a different home for such a sweet little girl.

I had her for 3 months and believe me it was very hard to send her off but my situation just did not allow me to keep her. It broke my heart but she is very very happy where she is so it made it all worth while.
