look at what my cat did

My sister bought some catnip the other day and put it on the dinning room table. When I came home from a bike ride, I saw a plastic container on the floor, so piked it up and noticed that it was a container of catnip and my cat was trying to get it open, I saw the plastic bag later. This is what he did to the container and bag:

One of my three cats will do that to the Friskies treat containers! If he can get to them he will pull the lid off and eat whats left. He even jumps onto the chest of drawers to get them if I forget to put them on top of the entertainment center where he can't reach. And they call THEM dumb animals! LOL

nativetexan 03-14-2012 06:51 PM

it seems you took too long on that bike ride!!!

sewnsewer2 03-14-2012 07:05 PM

Well... you know it makes cats crazy  Bet he had a good time trying to get it out. Mine love that stuff!:D

I still laugh at my DH when he forgot to put the banana bread into the bread box while I was gone working for 2 days. My dog got it off the table and ate over 1/2 of it and then he had to save it to show me??? Why didn't you just give her the rest of it too then?

Painiacs 03-14-2012 09:41 PM

Good thing it was cat proof!!

My cat did that once to the lid of our whipped butter container. She was trying to get the lid off! Tooth holes all over it. However, she failed, and apparently that taught her it wasn't worth the effort to try again. :D

Maybe your cat can read and knew it was catnip. I never buy it for mine. Had a cat years ago that liked powered donuts and another that liked pumpkin pie. I have one now that use to eat biscuits through the baggie.

We had a cat that bit holes through a Rubbermaid container that had catnip in it(and that's some tough plastic!)
Speaking of kitties with a sweet-tooth-one of ours took a bite out of each of a dozen donuts and my husband had one that ate an angel food cake through the package!

My cat actually jumped on the island and pulled the drawer open and dug out the bag I had just bought at the bulk store. I guess it was super fresh or something. We came downstairs the next morning to find cat nip all over the kitchen, he was in a drugged haze, all comfy laying and rolling around his cat nip all over the kitchen floor. Fortunately I had swept and mopped the night before so I just swept it all back up and stuck it in a sturdy freezer bag.

Yes, cats do have a sweet tooth - once, my mom baked me my favorite birthday cake (german choc.) and I left it on the table, covered with plastic wrap. The next morning, I found that my 8 mo. old kitten had licked the icing off half of the cake!

I sometimes sell catnip toys on ebay, I had one buyer report that when she came home from work, her cat was IN the mailbox trying to open HIS package!!

veryvirginia 03-16-2012 04:52 AM

Can you imagine a cat with a hangover? LOL

Addictions are hard to break! Got to love those kitties :-)

Looks like someone may need an "intervention"....

I spotted this & thought of this thread:

Caswews 03-16-2012 06:26 AM

wait till you plant cat nip .. HAHA that happened to me when I was younger and well you know !! I just liked the name of it .. so I put it into a container-put it outside as the directions said the plant liked sun .. that night well lets just say I had so many cats in the yard fighting over the nip. The cat nip was devoured and never again will I plant that!LOL

I had a Siamese cat that would get so excited when he got a catnip toy that he would wet on himself. His pupils in his eyes would get big and black, like he was on drugs. Cats love cat nip. I would grow it out in the garden and the cats would roll on top of it mashing it down and just rub them selves all over.

One of our fur babies would get into anything that had bread. We could never leave the grocery bags around that had bread in them -- we always ended up with a slice of bread or so eaten out of a big hole in the plastic wraper.

"Drugs! Give me drugs!" Here is Penny (aka "Who Me? Kitty") with the bag of catnip she stole off the counter.

caspharm 03-16-2012 12:26 PM

The scent is actually pretty strong if it's relatively fresh catnip, so for cats that are especially sensitive, it will drive them crazy.

Lady Diana 03-16-2012 03:24 PM

Our cat used to jump on the counter and put his paw on the electric can opener, making the gears turn and create the noise assocaited with his can of food, when he was hungry.
They are not dumb!

catnip.......I call it "kitty pot" ;o)

Kathy Osterby 03-16-2012 05:57 PM

Our 'black monster" did the same thing with his treats! When he couldn't get it open he carried the container to my DD'sroom for her to give him some! His real name is PYEWACKET from the movie "BELL BOOK AND CANDLE" DH named him and he's coal black and a monster when he wants to be lol'

Sandra-P 03-17-2012 10:05 AM

How cute! Your kitty really wanted it. I bought groceries one time and had some herbal tea in it and my cat went crazy for it. In the ingredients was catnip!

javin22 03-17-2012 12:45 PM

Wow that cat really likes cat nip. My cat is not that interested in catnip.

I do to! Between us and our roommate we have 5 cats. It's hilarious when we sprinkle some on the floor. One gets territorial in his corner and the others pick a spot and roll in it then start trying to eat it off each others fur!
The territorial one is good at finding and devouring the entire bag before we notice its gone.

I used catnip to get my sick cat eating again a few weeks ago. He kept going to his food bowl and then just walking away. Everything else was fine and I didn't want to go to the vet unless it was really an emergency. I sprinkled a litte catnip over his food and he ate it up. He was fine the next day and has been fine ever since that day.
