Looking for durable sewing machine

Hi, not sure where to post this. I was wondering if you ladie could help me. My son needs a new sewing machine. History. A year ago he bought a Janome. He sews and sells civil war mens re-enacting clothes. So lots of wool. He makes jackets and pants. He uses only three stitches, straight, zig zag, button hole. He really needs a machine that will be durable as well as last for a while. Do you have any ideas where he could look? We appreciate any help we can get. Thanks.

I don't know if you have a brand in mind but Singer has an industrial machine that will handle just about anything he may want to sew. My sister bought one for her Hubby because they have a ranch and he repairs a lot of leather thing and it works like a charm. It might be what your son is looking for.

A vintage and/or mechanical Bernina machine would be very good. They have very strong motors, last forever, and would easily handle the heavy wool fabrics. Check eBay for machines in working order. Here is a link to a mechanical model that is known for lasting forever:

Do you have a price range in mind?

I have the Bernina 1008...bought it new and have sewn at least 3-400 quilts on it...plus other mending I couldn't get out of
like heavy denim and jeans. The only thing that has failed on it was the metal piece that holds the bobbin in the case, and my OSMG fixed it in just a minute. I have to confess that that little break sent me off to purchase a few more machines "just in case"....:) ie, I can't be down since I have a shop. (sounds good, anyway!) Good luck!
