There are a lot of sites out there. Earlier today I typed in free crochet hat patterns and got a lot. Got more than I needed from the first tow sites I visited. I've learned if you're looking for free patterns that has to be the first search word.

Isn't there a crochet board.com? There is a knitting one. They are run just like this quilting board. Maybe by the same people?

In addition to the ones above I really like http://ravelry.com You have to join, but it's free and has some great patterns, both free and paid.

All the sites listed are great ones for patterns but I have not found a site like this one related to crocheting or knitting were members share information the way we do on this board.

Knitters paradise is a good knitting/ crochet board, abc123 ( I think is the name of it .. ), ravelry and quite a few blogs that are strictly crochet are all good.

I googled Hairpin Lace and got directions for it. I am on my 5th afghan and love it. Can do this while riding in a car or on a bus trip. I am also going to try doing huck towelnig again. I did this in the early 1960's, when I mentioned it at my quilt club no one had even heard of it. I called JoAnn fabrics and they do have the toweling and they sell it by the yard. I will see if I can perhaps do a demo and furnish enough material so they can make something.

Knitting Paradise is a great knitting/crochet forum like this one. Very helpful hints. As for patterns - your friend should google whatever it is she's interested in making. Some favorites are Ravelry, Lion Brand, RedHeart, Bernat, Bev's Country Cottage..........there's dozens and dozens.
