I have an ad in our local dot com newspaper. This morning I woke up to a request to make a nurse's scrub hat. Has anyone here made any? And are they difficult? Even though I have about 50 years of sewing experience (boy, does that date me? lol), I do not consider myself a seamstress. Would appreciate any help I can get.

yes, I haven't talked to the person yet, but she did say she had one for me to use as a pattern. Guess I should do a google search?

I did a search and one site says McCall's pattern #9644 is for scrub hats.

I just did a search and found a free pattern. But I would still like hints and suggestions.

I have made hundreds of scrub hats, I worked in OR for many years. There are several styles, but the most simple one is to cut a circle 25 inches in diameter, turn up 1/2 inch hem. Leave an opening and insert a 22 inch piece of elastic then join the ends of the elastic by sewing them. Any other pattern is just as simple.

I made 1000's of them for the TX State Board of Nurses Anesthetists... I made 3 models.. The boufant (sp) , the modeified ladies, and the traditional scrub ( mens) hat.
I Started out with a traditional scrub hat ( simplicity/etc carry them) then modified it to my liking. I had a request for a banded hat for the ladies.. I found a ( again simplicity or macalls) hat pattern that worked otu find... puffy on top ( so as not to mash their hair down but not like a showercap) They are very easy to make.

I think it would HAVE to be cotton because of the constant washing and high heat needed to decontaminate them. Remember, they are used in a closed room with recycled air,
and masses of viruses, germs, bacterias that are freed from the body when it's cut open.
Not to be crude about it, but that's what it boils down to.
