Loose Ends Project Finishers

I don't know if this has been mentioned on the boards before. It's a group where you can volunteer to finish a handwork project for someone who started it but can not finish it for whatever reason - death, disability, whatever. I signed up to do hand quilting but my impression is that they have a lot more volunteers than projects. They have a FB group you can join once you have signed up, some of the projects are  like crocheted thread tablecloths etc.
One person started a crib afghan for her child who passed away, a volunteer turned it into a sweater that she could wear in memory of her child.

Thank you for posting about Loose Ends. I read an article recently about the group. What a wonderful thing to do for someone. We have had several husbands come to the quilt shop with quilts that need to be quilted and bound and we have given them the names of a few local ladies that finish them.

I received and finished my first project, a Dresden Plate bed quilt. When I first saw it, I thought, Oh, big stitch quilting, this will be easy. Wrong!! It was big stitch because it had to be. I don't know what she had in the middle, my guess would be something like an army blanket. The edges were folded over and finished so I couldn't see. I believe it was QAYG as the back was made up of squares the same size as the front. Luckily most of the quilting was done, just some sashing and borders needed doing.

I'm not posting a picture as it was not my quilt. I got it done in time for the lady to bring it to her mom (who had started it but had to quit due to vision problems) a 10 hour drive away. It was beautiful in blues and maroons, and entirely hand pieced as well.

Now my next project is for a friend, a heavy old utility quilt that she loves, but has a big hole on one side. She wants it cut down and re-finished.

I love the concept of Loose Ends. Finishing the work of someone who can not longer quilt or to honor there memory is a laudable effort. I hope that I can deplete my own loos ends soon enough to be able to take on someone else's unfinished project. I heard about this group perhaps on Karen Browns "Just Get it Done" blog. Maybe?
