So - we've had bad news...a friends daughter has died and we are going to the funeral in a few days (so sad - but not asking for prayers or sympathy here). So, since it's been 6 yrs since I retired and got rid of work clothes AND lost 53 lbs........I have NOTHING to wear other than jeans!!!!! Yip --- had to go to town today. #1) Price of slacks is OUTRAGEOUS!!!! and 2) After buying myself slacks and DH slacks and a shirt all I could think of was "man, $147.00 -- how much fabric would that have bought"!!!!!! I'm SICK!!!!!!!

Okay -- now I got it out of my system. :)

Rebecca VLQ 07-22-2011 11:21 AM

Well, now you will have a pair of slacks for another time you need to support a friend....

qbquilts 07-22-2011 11:25 AM

Double stinks. :-( But I'm glad you'll be there for your friend.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-22-2011 11:34 AM

Wow, that sure was costly!

ptquilts 07-22-2011 11:38 AM

A lot to be said for a black skirt with an elastic waistband.

oops, misread - you LOST weight - then you could pin it. A tunic top to cover all.

Have you thought about thrift stores? I am transitioning in sizes myself and refuse to buy anything new until I am down a couple of more sizes. (Sorry about the loss)

amandasgramma 07-22-2011 11:44 AM

Been thinking thrift stores for a long time....around here all I could find were flannel shirts. LOL As for expensive...yes, 2 pairs of slacks and a shirt --- the clothes for hubby cost more and they were ALL on sale!!! we didn't go to Walmart! I'd been doing the cheaper way for a long time...been at this weight for 3 yrs so thought I could splurge...especially since I only pay $16.00 for my jeans!!!!

I would love to buy new SMALLER clothes, congrats on the new size, Condolences on the loss of your friend

Glassquilt 07-22-2011 11:56 AM

So sorry on the loss of your friend's daughter.

Joanie2 07-22-2011 12:03 PM

Although I sympathize with you for having to go out an purchase some new clothes -- you needed them. And you can always find more fabric but the friend will forever remember your attendance at her daughter's service. The gift of friendship and being there for your friend can not be replaced.

Same here. Consignment shops are also a good source for nice things at a reasonable price.

I've found 2 consignment shops here in this area....both of them believe that only people size 1 or 2 need to bring their clothes in!!!!!!

Your presence at the funeral will be priceless, believe me. My DBIL wore jeans to my husbands' funeral and I was honored. Few knew that he had driven 1600 miles roundtrip the week before to see DH, then turned around and drove back
when he passed quickly. That said, I find myself measuring things in fabric-dollars too! Too funny.

thank you --- I was trying to put a funny spin on a very stressful time. The dear girl took her own life --- and we're all in such shock.

:-( :-(

You sound like me....I have one pair of slacks to wear with acouple different tops when its absolutely required. Otherwise, dressing up to me usually means not-so-faded jeans or capris.

I hate buying new clothes and shoes. I've found that the quality isn't that great, but prices keep going up. I refuse to buy anything unless it's on clearance!

Your friend's family and you are in my prayers.

leatheflea 07-23-2011 02:46 AM

We should trade wardrobes, i'm finding what your losing. Really tired of finding it for you!
