Not sure about the apple thing, but I do believe in the power of being positive. Just look at the impact of words on children. I taught for many years and always had better luck with kindness and encouragement and a little humor than with criticism. Guess I need to use it on myself. Makes me think of the old SNL skits with Al Franken...and darnit I'm worth it!
