Breakfast, lunch & supper for me growing up. For the longest time I didn't know what meal people were talking about when they said "dinner".
|
this is how it was in my family. But more on Mon-Sat was lunch, Sunday was dinner at lunch time.

If it was a light meal after breakfast, it was called lunch. If a big meal it was called dinner. This was at noon. If it was a light meal at 5 P.M. it was supper, or a heavy meal at 5 P.M. it was dinner. Are you completely confused by my background, bearisgray? LOL

Breakfast, lunch, supper (or dinner)
We didn't have large dinners at noon like a lot of people I knew. (after church on Sunday) We got fresh Italian bread after Mass and then had huge sandwiches of fresh ham and cheese, Italian style. We sat in the back seat on the way home and dug at the bread until Mom said to stop- it was still warm and sooooo good!!! |
ha, ha. confusing. Lunch is mid-day and supper is the evening meal. unless it is formal and then it's dinner. I always have to ask what time though just to make sure.
|
Oh Lynnie, that is funny. cats! I call it din-din. Not sure if they notice though. It's my whistle that brings them to eat.

Us city "folks" in Minnesota called it- breakfast-lunch and supper. Didn't realize that until I married a country boy! Then it got confusing.
|
Minnesota city folk here too!! Breakfast, lunch, and supper. Dinner was what we called the Sunday lunch, because that was always a "fancier" meal. Applied also to Easter Dinner, Thanksgiving Dinner, and Christmas Dinner. When I married a "St. Paulite", I "learned" that dinner and supper were supposed to be interchangeable!!

That's the way it was in my mom's family. Dinner was a sit down meal. I think lunch was something you packed in a sack or a lunchbox.
