Lysol Laundry Sanitizer

Has anyone else tried this? I love the way my DH's stinky laundry comes out smelling - like nothing - it is not an odor masker with fragrance, just smells clean. I've tried lots of products to get rid of the "hard working mechanic" smell and I could usually smell it even after washing. This one really works!

good to know!

I'll have to check that out. My husband has the same issues as your hubby. Thanks

Yes, thanks for the tip. I had not heard about this product.

Where did you find it? I it new and a Powder or the old Lysol liquid? When my son was in HS and home for his college breaks he worked at Pizza Hut and always used Lysol to wash the Pizza smell out of his work slacks and t-shirts. He still likes to use Lysol when he does laundry.

I found it near the Oxiclean. It is a liquid in a white bottle with a navy blue cap. It is not the same as Lysol liquid cleaner.

Since we are helping each other with laundry issues, I have another real laundry problem. DH has really oily skin (and looks half his age because of it) but he does leave oiliness on all my pillow cases in the shape of his head. When I wash them normally, the whole thing takes on an oily look and still has his skin smell still in them. So far the only way I have found to deal with this is to hand wash them in dawn dish soap after soaking in it for 30 minutes, then put them through the regular laundry. Do any of you have a less labor intensive way to deal with this? I would hate to trade a good man off to get rid of the problem.....lol.

*FYI- His skin oil evidently also has the power to remove the color (he turned my dark brown sheet burnt orange on his side of the bed) from my egyptian cotton sheets so now we only buy the lighter colors. Good thing he is so likable.......lol.

No help madamekelly, my DH has exactly the same problem...I'll keep watching. Mine has other attributes that will make me keep him, too, but I sure would like to solve this issue.

My husband was an electrician at a cement plant. I always put vinegar in the rinse water.

No additional help to offer-up. My husband is the same. I do find changing the pillowcases between bedding washings does help, because the oiliness is less severe.

MY son smokes (yuck!) and works in construction. His clothes stink! I add a cup of lemon ammonia in the washer and my regular detergent. Laundry comes out clean and fresh smelling every time. Get a half gallon at the dollar store. Cheap and effective.

I use OdaBan. Works great and I buy it at Sam's by the gallon.

I guess I am not the only one who like this, couldn't find any anywhere in town this weekend :( So I came home and ordered 4 of the larger size jugs from Walmart.com and will have it Wednesday with free shipping :)

I pre-wash my laundry on a short cycle. Then was as usual. Everything comes out looking and smelling great!
I do add Borax, esp. to the whites and lites.

For the oiliness issue, I think soaking in Dawn and water before washing would help. Dawn is used to remove oil from bird feathers, so I think it would also work on fabric. You have to be careful about using Dawn in the wash, especially if you have a front loader, as it can create too many suds. It's a lot like Synthrapol. If you want to try doing laundry with Dawn, this website has reasonable instructions (be aware that these instructions are probably for an old top loader; for new top loaders and especially for front loaders, the amounts may be way too much):

Edit: I see the comments section on this website includes some information about HE washers. Be sure to read all the comments before trying it.

As far as the oiliness, I've had some luck using Simple Green. Put about 1/3 cup in the top loading washer with the regular laundry detergent. Sometimes I will pre-soak with a splash of Simple Green and water in the laundry sink while I do the other colored laundry. Then when I get to those colors, I just throw it in the washer. By the way, I'm really glad to hear that my husband is not the only one with this issue. He bathes every night before bed, and we still have the skin oil all over the pillowcases.
