Is there a confirmation shipping number? If not, she is responsible. And you don't have to wait if she can't prove she shipped it.

sewwhat85 01-04-2011 07:24 PM

no havent had that problem

cherylynne 01-04-2011 07:28 PM

Only one time did I not receive something that I had paid for on ebay. The seller refunded my money without a problem. I certainly understand your frustration, though.

oatw13 01-04-2011 07:31 PM

Have you tried opening a complaint with Paypal? I am assuming you paid through PayPal.

Here are the timelines eBay uses for complaints:

Timelines

If you haven't received an item, you can open a case after the estimated delivery date (if available) or 7 days after making payment (if no estimated delivery date was provided).

Good luck. Maybe it is hung up in the mail. Our mail is a couple days behind due to the holidays.

amma 01-04-2011 07:31 PM

I would request a refund :D:D:D

Sewlmatesister 01-04-2011 07:39 PM

I live in canada, and sell on Ebay, could it be coming from Canada, if you're in US?? Some can take a LONG time, also we have less PO days (no saturdays) and with the holidays??
Some sellers also only post once or twice a week, so if it was me, I think I'd wait a few more days.

JackieG 01-04-2011 07:44 PM

I'm pretty sure she's still responsible. I think ebay changed its rules to require sellers to either buy insurance or proof of delivery. You may have to wait a few weeks, but if you paid through PayPal, you can dispute through PP and you will get a refund. Then you can leave neg feedback. Good Luck.

mom-6 01-04-2011 07:44 PM

How was it shipped? If priority mail, you should have it already. If parcel post...who knows. I've seen things take nearly 2 weeks to get from one of our suppliers on the south side of Dallas to here...less than an hour's drive.

frugalfabrics 01-04-2011 07:49 PM

the page should have said how long to expect for delivery. You need to file thru ebay and thru paypal to be protected both ways (if you used paypal).

I had to file one time, when I didn't get an item. Ebay has a process, but you have to do it within the timeframe otherwise you are SOL.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-04-2011 07:50 PM

Hi Jean, I sell on Ebay. All of my packages are shipped First Class or Priority. I'm assuming if you got a pattern it would ship First Class.
When I ship from Paypal, which is always, I get a tracking number (everyone does).
If the seller cannot provide you with a tracking number she IS responsible!
File a complaint asap. That's really bad business for a seller to tell a buyer that she isn't responsible after shipping. It's total BS.
Good luck and don't worry, you'll get your money back.
Frustrating though, you want to get started on your project!

beautress 01-04-2011 07:55 PM

I only have a problem about once every 150 sales. About 90% of problems come from people who aren't familiar with ebay, don't read the rules, or are in the habit of automatically blaming somebody else when they screw up.

When there is a really late item, it could be the person is elderly and may have been suddenly hospitalized and unable to mail the item.

I always give them a break, hoping that if I ever fail, someone will at least give me the benefit of the doubt. In return, I get the other 149 sales as great service.

Also, if I run across someone who says they are selling something like an heirloom quilt to help pay for their daughter's hospitalization, I put that person on my prayer list.

It makes all the difference in how I feel about others in the marketplace.

Ebay is a great source. I'm sure there are others, but I've had very, very good luck over the last several years with them.

irishrose 01-04-2011 08:03 PM

I recently had a problem with 2 yards of fabric not arriving. There was no confirmation number. The seller refunded my money as soon as she was contacted, but there was a delay as she was on vacation. Problem - it's wasn't a stash purchase, but one I need for a specific pattern. She has no more black Misty Rose print.

featherweight 01-04-2011 08:21 PM

I have NEVER had a problem with ebay. I always check the feedback first. If they are slow I know what to expect!! Sorry you are unhappy.

rexie 01-04-2011 08:30 PM

If you paid with paypal, you should be able to file a claim and get your money back.

Tsanchez 01-04-2011 08:43 PM

I haven't had any problems lately with ebay but I pay with paypal. I will tell you that snail mail is really bad around the holidays. A friend of mine sent me a package just before my birthday the end of November and I still have not received it. She was mailing from California. I ordered some fabric last Tuesday and I got it yesterday. I agree with most. File a complaint with paypal and with ebay. If one won't do it the other one will. Good luck.

Sadiemae 01-04-2011 10:09 PM

I have never had a pattern take more than 7 days. I also like to give people a break, but this is too long unless like someone said it is coming from Canada. I only made the mistake of ordering from Canada one time. I admit to not being a very patient person when I want to make something.

This happened to me on ebay. File a complaint on the seller by filling out the complaint. Ebay will contact the seller and she will have to show proof it was mailed or refund your money. My money was refunded to me.

ptquilts 01-05-2011 09:18 AM

Although the seller IS responsible for getting you the item or refunding your money, they can not be held accountable for any goofups the USPS make (and we know they sometimes goof up).
If she can prove she shipped it in a timely manner, and it just was delayed by the PO in getting to you, please do NOT take it out on the seller by leaving neg FB or dinging their shipping stars. I hate it when that happens to me as a seller, all I can do is ship it quickly and hope for the best, then it is in the PO's hands.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-05-2011 09:53 AM

PT quilts is right on this.
My post was about a seller telling a buyer they aren't responsible. Of course I don't know anything but what Jean said. I have always thought whether I'm buying or selling that a negative is ONLY to be used as a last resort.
We sellers work hard for those stars and positives and some folks don't realize just what goes into selling. And the post office can be a PITA!! :D

Jean- I hope you keep us posted. I've gotten fantastic fabrics, patterns, etc on Ebay. There are many wonderful sellers!!

ptquilts 01-05-2011 10:00 AM

I agree, it burns my behind to get a neg from a buyer who has not communicated with me AT ALL beforehand. If you have a problem, email me and we can work it out. I want happy customers. I think most sellers feel the same way.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-05-2011 10:03 AM

You know, pt, I hate to jinx myself but I have 100% fb- watch I'll get dinged today!! hahaha
You are so right- I'm always willing to work things out and once in awhile things go wrong. You just never know who you're dealing with. That's what bugs me.
A lot of my buyers don't leave any fb or I get glowing fb. Who knows ?? I recently had a person who told me the fragrance I sent her smelled horrible. I refunded her, with no questions, but I have another one just like it that smells great. It's just not worth the hassle to make her send it back.
BUT- she didn't neg me and I thanked her for writing first but I never got a thank you at all, nothing. Oh well :)
But it's life and we just have to do our best :D

Ditter43 01-05-2011 10:16 AM

My DH mailed out a package before Christmas and it took 17 days. The PO says during Christmas this can happen. I bought my pattern from ebay and got it within a week. Sorry you are having this problem! :|

Tsanchez 01-05-2011 02:39 PM

I'm the same way when it comes to working things out. I make custom quilts and wall hangings. When ordered, I give them a date of when they can expect completion. If I am running behind for any reason, I am up front with my customers. I then let them know when their order is completed, when shipped, and I request a follow up message when they receive it. When the PO says delivery within 7-10 business days, I then check with the customer 11 days after shipping if I have not received a message advising they have got the package.

jackkip 01-05-2011 02:47 PM

I hate when Sellers hold the buyer's feedback hostage. I have had several times after I had paid, that I recieved an email that states: "you will recieve positive feedback after you(the buyer) has left me positive feedback."

I am sorry, but this is so wrong. I have completed my half of the transaction. So is my feedback contingent on what type of feedback I leave.

When I do recieve those emails, I refuse to leave any type of feedback and will complain to the seller. This is not how Ebay should work. It is one of the main reasons I rarely buy from there. :(

FancyFoot 01-05-2011 02:55 PM

Maybe your mailman delivered it to the wrong address. It happened to me & the Post Office boss made the mailman pay me for my loss & his mistake. I received a postal money order for $130.

qwkslver 01-05-2011 02:58 PM

I hate ebay. I bought a CD once for $10, she didn't send it, admitted so. Ebay said they closed her account. Wow, big deal. I was out ten bucks.

I am sorry but this is the way I usually work. Have you ever sold anything, and then had a PITA buyer who tries to get a partial refund by complaining about some non-existent flaw? It happens a LOT on ebay. The buyer can also complain and supposedly send your item back, but they can send back ANYTHING and ebay/PP will refund them. I can't tell you how many times I have read on the message boards at ebay about someone selling a designer purse and getting back a Kmart special. Then the buyer has the real purse and the money. I bet the seller would feel really stupid if they had left positive feedback FIRST for that buyer.
When I get FB from the buyer, I know they got the item and are happy with it, and the transaction is complete. Then I leave FB.

We have ordered many items off Ebay and we have had a problem twice. One time my order went to the wrong address(not my fault). I got a call from someone in Hungary telling me there was a package with my name, address, credit card number and phone number inside. This package was going to someone in Bulgaria with $286.00 worth of merchandise. She was an honest person. I was very thankful to her. I had to cancel my credit card and got that charge removed. There are a lot of dishonest people everywhere but there a also a lot of honest ones. I didn't order anything for a long time from Ebay. The only other time we had a problem was this last December. It took 13 days for an item for a car part to get here.
