It's to let us know it's not made with high fructose corn syrup, which is much, much worse than sugar. The corn lobby is trying to make it illegal for products to advertise that they use real sugar, and since the FDA is owned by Big Pharma and Big Agriculture, it will probably come down the pike soon. Do some research on high fructose corn syrup, and you'll see why this is nothing to laugh about. HFCS is in nearly everything, sometimes called "corn syrup," sometimes "corn solids," and even "corn sugar". Avoid it like the plague, if you value your health.

Even beet sugar is from genetically-modified beets, which is also bad. Best to opt for pure cane sugar, if you possibly can. There are much better reasons to avoid carbonated drinks than sugar, by the way.

You'd have to go some to convince me that there's anything wrong with corn syrup... here's a link to read up on sugars:

So many products now have High Frucotse Corn syrup in them. In lab animals fed the same calories of sugar vs the high fructose corn syrup the ones with the corn syrup gain weight, and even become obese, while the sugar fed ones do not gain as much with the same amount of calories. The HFCS( high fructose corn syrup) came out in the 70's. It is in almost everything now, even bread! It is cheaper to manufacture, sweeter than sugar, but really not good for you at all. Some say this is one cause of the obesity epidemic we have now in the states and the timeline when it started was in the last 70's when HFCS came into existence. Something about the way our bodies use the HFCS vs sugar. Next time you are at the grocery store just check out the ingredient labels. You can also google HFCS and get some info about it. People are becoming more educated about it and some companies are listening and starting to use real sugar again.

I hate beet sugar (there is a taste difference) and HFCS.........I go to costco and buy a 25lb bag for 18 dollars is is marked as cane sugar. I do not drink much but when I do it is at home and I am a rum and coke girl; and I buy only coke made in Mexico as it is made with cane sugar. I rarely ever drink soda or eat out, not into junk food, make my own desserts so I know what is in them and really try to stay away from processed food, I make my own bread and rolls, danish etc........ I can't wait to move next year so I will have the space to can my own veggies, jams etc....... . I read labels and opt for the ones with the fewest ingredients possible.

My hubby is a diabetic, before I met him he would eat out all the time his sugar was through the roof!!! Now when he is home , he eats much better and even indulges in a sweet now and then and his Dr. is pleased with his sugar levels..........
When he is away for work he is more aware now of making better choices for his meals.

HFCS is evil IMHO...............

I know that "Mexican Coca Cola" is made with real sugar and "American" Coca Cola is made with High Fructose Corn Syrup but WHY? Did America beg for the change? Did we say we hated sugar and wanted HFC (which by the way is metabolized as a sugar and as a fat) Did Mexico demand to have sugar (in which case they set a precident and we should all wise up)? Why the difference?

I recently bought my son a soda in the Mexican food section of our local grocery store so he could taste the difference, it was even bottled in a real bottle which is also something I remember liking, more carbonation.
