Making a cushion
The top for the pillow/cushion is 12.5" square. The foam I want to use is 2" thick.
How do I cut a backing to accomodate the thickness? I can't seem to grasp how it's done. Thanks for any help you can give me. |
Usually I use to measure the width (12.5") twice and add the width once and then add half of the width plus seam allowance twice. I would dog ear to get the corners to be square. Try out making the pillow with some inexpensive fabric that you may have and then when you have learn from making that one correctly, then you will be ready to make the one you want. Good Luck.

I would cut a strip 3" (1/2" seam allowance) and add the top and bottom to it. You could add some piping too.
Look at some patterns at Joannes or online and see if you get any ideas you like. There are a lot of ways to approch this. |
You can google making cushions. just Google cushion patterns/video.

Also check youtube for how to make a cushion cover.

My DIL has asked me to make a mattress cover for a bed in their motor home and since I have not done one before I am following this tutorial which seems clear and simple. http://www.sewmamasew.com/2008/07/su...table-cushion/

hmmm, i would make a strip to fit the thickness of the form and add the top and bottom to that. Ends up looking great. just one extra piece of fabric.

that is an excellent tutorial on box cushions..which I just happened to get volunteered to make for my niece's friend, she has paid IMHO a small fortune for the fabric so I have to make sure to do it right..I plan to make a couple of small pillows using this info. then move on to the 72x24x4" project...wish me luck lol
