They are so fun. It is so wonderful when you can give something so personal and so fun

barbt 08-15-2011 07:11 PM

yes they are and you can whip them up real fast. Children really like them.

np3 08-15-2011 07:12 PM

Fun aren't they?

hopetoquilt 08-15-2011 07:18 PM

Just curious as to how you are giving them as gifts. Hope it's okay to ask. I have seen a pillowcase given with a coordinating book. Are you giving sheets with them? Do they match existing bed quilts?

I wanted to make one for my nephew for christmas and wasn't sure what fabric to use or how to make it as a gift.

BTW, the pillowcases came out great.

I also saw your question about the third one. it looks nice but maybe a little more contrasting middle (piping) fabric would be even better like a medium brown? Love the horse fabric

The pink one I will give a book with it and the horse one will have a toy car with it. They all have sheets and I thought to have their very own pillowcase would be neat. I used cotton fabric .
After seeing the picture on here I will use a medium brown for piping. Thank you very much for looking.
I bought the horses at Walmart. They really have a nice selection of fabric now.

Thanks for the ideas. My DBIL loves the Yankees so I am considering making a Yankee pillowcase for his son. I was trying to brainstorm as to a gift to go with it.

They will love the cases.. I made my DD & family cases for Christmas last yr. Thinking of doing more this year too. I just use a neutral color for the cases, and add embroidery to the cuff part, or a pretty print that goes w/her decor. I've made my grandkids little cases for their pillows, and square ones for their couch pillows. There's so many ways to do them... Enjoy..... Your cases are really nice..

I've got to make 2 pair tomorrow. One pair for a coworker of dd's who's going to college and the other pair for another coworker who just redecorated her bedroom. I just love the kids at Starbucks! I'm the store mom, and I love it!!

sunflower126 08-16-2011 03:21 AM

I made four last night. The kids found more soccer and volleyball fabrics. They must have at least 4 or 5 in those fabrics alone. I make them for all holidays, a birthday one, to match their sleep pants that I make for Christmas or the sleep shorts I make for summer. The occasions are endless. We all go to the beach for vacation and every year they get a new "beach" pillowcase. Before long they could put a different one on their pillow each week for a year. LOL

Has anyone tried making pillowcases for king-sized pillows using this method?

Yes, I did. I just made the body longer and finished it with the same method.

Your pillowcases look great. Don't you love the "hot dog" method for making them...so easy, and they look great. Did you do the french seams?

amma 08-17-2011 04:33 PM

Beautiful cases :D:D:D

patchsamkim 08-17-2011 04:38 PM

Love making and gifting pillowcases...so many fun fabrics to make them out of!!

Pinkiris 08-17-2011 07:02 PM

I made these same pillowcases for every family member last Christmas. I even had the identical horse fabric for our oldest granddaughter!
For the grandkids, I made fabric composition book covers to match so that they could journal, draw or whatever! They seemed very happy.
