Measure for elastic...

Need help. How would I determine how much elastic to cut for making a round, fitted tablecloth fit?
Thanks.

I used to do that for our round patio table...I'd buy, cut into larger circle, sew channel, then measure circumference of table and cut elastic a bit longer than half.....worked fine....then got rid of table/chairs..no one wanted to eat outside...bugs...heat...bought couch and cushion chairs...one everyone lives the new outside living room.

It depends on how tight you want it and much you are putting it under the table. If just a couple of inches under the lip, I would measure the circumference and reduce it by about a foot. If the fabric is going way under, make it much shorter length of elastic.
If you are making a gusset for the elastic, you could also do a drawstring instead of elastic and it would be adjustable, just a thought.

I use the 2/3 method. measure the length of the item then cut your elastic 2/3 of that amount.

If you are putting elastic in clothing, you use have the measurement plus 2 inches for joining.

when I do clothing I measure say the wrist 7" and use that. the take up say 1/2" is enough to gather.
for my table, I measured the circumference and took about 4" off that kept it tight.
