Memory Bears
2 Attachment(s)
The first picture is of the Memory Bear my friend made me using my DH's clothes. He passed away on Nov 23, 6 days before he would have been 75. Life is very lonely with out him. We were married 43 y 2 m & 19 days.
The second picture is of my bear and the two I had made for my girls. |
Those are absolutely priceless! Love 'em!
|
What fun! I've never heard of doing memory bears before. It's a wonderful idea and will create a treasured keepsake for all of you.
|
Adorable!
How exceptional that your friend incorporated the shirt collars and front button plackets. And even the belt loops on the jeans! Is this quilt also from your DH's jeans? So sorry for your loss. You have some special treasures there to help you and your DDs find your new normal, as you remember your DH/DF. |
So sorry for your loss.
My niece makes these, but uses just shirts, no jeans. These are really cute. I'll have to show her. |
Priceless!!
|
What a great idea.. I have all my mother-in-laws clothes. I was going to make quilts for all the grandchildren but maybe a bear would be nicer for the little ones. Thank you for sharing.
|
sorry for your loss
very nice |
Oh, so sweet. So sorry for your loss. I hope the bears bring him a little closer to you and your girls and help to heal.
|
So very sorry for your loss...it is hard to lose your husband...mine passed away 8 years ago...we were married 27 years...I was only 49...with the help of family and friends, I have been able to move forward...but you never get over the loss. My dad just passed away, so now my mom is a widow...they were married 63 years...she is feeling so alone too. I love the memory bear idea. My sister gave me a bag of my dad's clothes to make a quilt...and I want to do that...but would be nice for her to have a bear also to snuggle with. So nice of your friend to make the bears using your husband's clothes...I am sure the girls will like them too.
|
I too, lost my husband coming up on four years in March...so you have my sympathy and my empathy...we were married for forty years as well. I have some of his clothes I just couldn't part with but didn't know what I wanted to do with them; I think you've given me an idea! Thank you for giving me something to think about doing!
And things WILL get better...it just takes awhile, and to be honest, "awhile" sometimes feels like "forever" but it does happen, I promise. Will say a prayer for you... |
GOD BLESS YOU! You know I am praying for you all the time. The bears are beautiful - all three of them. I am sure the girls will treasure them as you do yours.
Love, Oma |
Oh, I am sorry for the loss of your husband. What a wonderful way to have a memory of him. My mother quickly gave away all my Dad's clothing, so I have nothing personal for a memory. Your daughter's will love these "Dad" bears. That is a very nifty idea!
|
I know your pain Olivia's Grammy - I lost my hubby May 5, 2012 after 38 years of marriage. It is so hard in the beginning - just stay busy.
|
So sorry for your loss. These bears are enchanting.
|
I have been making memory bears for the cancer center, and they sure can keep you busy. But are such fun to bring to life. Somehow the clothes bring that persons personality to the forefront, and are such a comfort. I lost my DH to cancer in June, and my mother in June of 08, so I have two of my own bears on the shelf
|
Sorry for your lose, went through that 2001 after 48 years of marriage.
Love these bears, where did you get the pattern. I'm sure your girls will cherish thiers. |
sorry for your loss
Love the bear idea. My brother just passed away and I have his clothes. I was going to make everyone a small quilt but I really like the bear idea. Is there a pattern for this? |
What a fabulous idea - I like it.
I, too, am a widow - my husband passed away in 1995. A few years later I met another fabulous person and it is like we picked up the world and got going again. Good luck, my feelings are with you. Marysewfun |
So sorry for your loss. I think the bears are a wonderful way to keep your memories close.
|
Sorry for your loss. The bears are precious. I've been asked to do a couple of lap size memory quilts for a friend of my daughter's. Her dad passed away in 2012 and she wanted them for herself and her mom. Maybe I can do something like this to go with the quilts. Thanks for sharing.
|
Just so CUTE!! I never thought of making the bottom half from jeans. I love it.
|
Beautiful keepsakes for you and your daughters. So sorry for your loss.
|
First of all, I am very sorry for your loss. The holidays must have been very hard for you. My most sincere condolences to you.
that is such a great idea. I wish I was ambitious enough to make one for my girlfriend when her husband passed away two years ago. |
Thank you for all your kind words. My girls love the bears. My son wants one for Olivia. I didn't think she would know what it was about, but he said she would some day.
The pattern Nancy used is just a simple bear pattern. I could have made them, but Nancy has made about 500 and has the system down to a quick procedure. |
They're so nice. Just got done making a second set ( my aunt in may and uncle in nov) of memorial bears. I only had a shirt to work with so i made minis, 4". Those little arms and legs took forever to stuff. And yo yos with a button in the middle, from down the front of the p.j. shirt. Came out cute.

Do you know which memory bear pattern she used
Thanks |

You did a fine job on these! They are priceless! Thanks for sharing them with us here.
|
So sorry for your loss. The bears are adorable.
|
I made an apron out of a shirt for a friend when her husband died. I have also made throw pillows out of his shirts. Free patterns are online. Bears are cute!

Very sorry for your loss!

So sorry for your loss. Your memory bears are so cute and they will mean a lot to you and your girls. It will be nice to just hug or touch the bear and you hopefully will feel like you are having some connection to your husband.
