He died of a heat stroke 31 years ago today! So be careful and drink lots of water and look for shade! Sad but I've lived longer without him than I did with him.

LoriEl 07-04-2011 05:15 AM

A bittersweet day. Thanks for the reminder!

maine ladybug 07-04-2011 05:17 AM

I know how it feels. Today is my Mom's birthday and the 4th without her isn't the same. She's been gone for 7 years now, but I still miss her every day.

Dragonfly Nana 07-04-2011 05:19 AM

{{{Hugs}}} It is hardest to be without them on the special days.
Thanks for the gentle reminder to take care of what you have while you still have it.

What a beautiful picture.

star619 07-04-2011 05:45 AM

Isn't it great to remember them when they were young, strong and knew everything in the world. I treasure pictures of my Dad at that age. it's such a difference from their later years with all their medical problems.
Thanks for the memories!

Alex J 07-04-2011 05:55 AM

nice picture of you and your Dad

tutt 07-04-2011 06:09 AM

Thanks everyone! I love this picture of my Dad, I thought he was so handsome! Me however, looks like I have a fresh "Toni Home Perm" (I still have nightmares about those) and have been in Mom's lipstick! I still remember that day and how glad I was to have Daddy home. He worked construction and was gone for long stretches at a time.

jillnjo 07-04-2011 06:12 AM

What a handsome father and I wish you could have known him so much longer! Love old pictures like that-they look like the "good old days".

My husband died at age 35 of a heart defect. Our son was 2 yrs., 5 months old. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember his dad, and I don't have very many pictures, because he was the one who took the pictures. I'm glad you had some time with your dad that you are able to remember. I'm sorry it wasn't more. Great picture!

FQ Stash Queen 07-04-2011 09:32 AM

Thank you for sharing such a precious memory. And yes, you look like you had the same Toni home perm I did back in the day! I lost my loving Dad Sept 19 after a 5 year struggle with a rare form of leukemia. Father's Day was very difficult and with their anniversary coming up July 20 (54 years), it is really. All I can say is "thanks for the memories".

God Bless you and your family, Cherie

My parents died 11 months apart. At the time I was 60 and felt like an orphan. This was 15 years ago and I still miss them both. However, I have good memories and often talk to them when alone in my quilting room. Dad's mother was a quilter and piqued my interest in quilting when I was about 8. I have said to my mother's sister (92), I wish Mom could see my quilts. She would be proud, I think.

sc-sunshine 07-05-2011 04:54 AM

My dad passed away July 30, 2010. He's really on my mind right now. I know I was truely blessed though for Daddy lived to be 82.

Mommomjoann 07-05-2011 05:07 AM

I know your pain, our son would have been 44 on July 4 th. We lost him six years ago. We celebrate each year with his two beautiful children, ages 10& 12,with a cake and candles, then off to the fireworks!

Aaaah what a sad story. Thank you for reminding and caring for all of us so this does not happen to others. What a handsome man. I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

pawebdoctor 07-05-2011 05:43 AM

Beautiful photo, wonderful memories!!!

I like you have been without both my parents longer than I got to be with them... my dad since 1977 and mom since 1985. I dreadfully miss them... but treasure the memories!!!

maryb119 07-05-2011 06:41 AM

I lost my grandmother on July 4th 25 years ago. I was pregnant with my son. I think of her when I'm watching the fireworks each year.

I know what you mean. 28th of June was 30 years since Daddy died at the age of 44. I was 20 years old. I've now lived longer than he did.

Here's my favorite picture of my Daddy & his little girl (me)

IBQUILTIN 07-05-2011 09:49 PM

Make all your memories of him be good ones. The other stuff doesn't matter at all

serenitybygrace 07-06-2011 07:49 AM

Your picture is priceless. What a happy memory.

My parents are both very old. My dad is in the dementia stage now and my brother who is a RN has called in Hospice. My brother has kept them in their home and had different people coming in around the clock. Now they are adding hospice. My dad is yelling all the time now so it is very, very hard on my mom. I live in Kansas and they live in Houston. My siblings got the hard part..to watch all this going on.

KLO 07-07-2011 03:09 PM

Good of you to send out this warning. I had a minor heat problem years ago when my DH and I were hiking in the summer. Also, around seven years ago one of my dogs got heat stroke when we lived for a very short time in FL. Almost lost her. So, yes, take tutt's advice and be careful out there! PS: Love the photo. Bet that is precious to you. It's terrible when a little girl loses her Dad!!!

Marvel 07-08-2011 01:13 PM

Honey every day you had with him was a gift from God. You both look so happy. I know you miss him but enjoy his memories and his love. I lost my Daddy 12 years ago and I know how hard it is. You never forget. Bless You.
