The media here are reporting that Michael Jackson has died this morning of a heart attack. Paramedics were called but were unable to revive him. Have you guys heard this?

Ducky 06-25-2009 01:47 PM

HUH?!!! I will go to my newspage right now!

beachlady 06-25-2009 01:49 PM

On the news now, though not that he died, but just reported he was not breathing when medics got there about 12:20 pm in CA. Cardiac arrest.

Ducky 06-25-2009 01:51 PM

Nothing I see says anything about being dead. He had stopped breathing, but had CPR and is in the hospital now.

quilter1962 06-25-2009 01:51 PM

Blue

Our 10pm news has just been on & there was a mention that he had to be rushed to Hospital today - no further details have been issued to the BBC at this time.

Here in Japan, the actress who was on Charlie's Angel just passed away in cancer is being reported frequently now on TV. There doesn't cme out any Michael Jackson News here.

BlueChicken 06-25-2009 01:53 PM

It's all over the news here that he was unable to be revived.

Just as a total aside... isn't it freaky how quickly news (and rumours) get around the world these days. I remember reading of someone in the twin towers who didn't know what was going on but was called by a family member in another country who told them a plane had hit the tower.

Moonpi 06-25-2009 01:55 PM

News here is confirming his death - heart problems, cardiac arrest, but too soon to know what caused it.

Yeah... that's sad. Farrah Fawcett was one of "Charlie's Angels". She's been battling cancer for a while, it's a cruel disease.

Ninnie 06-25-2009 02:25 PM

ABC news just announced that he is officially dead.

sewnsewer2 06-25-2009 02:28 PM

I just saw that too. Farrah Fawsett died today too.

BlueChicken 06-25-2009 02:32 PM

I guess he's finally at peace then.

RIP

quilter1962 06-25-2009 02:49 PM

Just announced here too on Sky News that he has passed away.

Now only they have started making a fuss about Michael Jackson's issue. They are not sure if he is really dead or not, here. I might be the very first to know the truth in Japan through this board. LOL

jbsstrawberry 06-25-2009 02:59 PM

Yep it looks like Michael as well as Farah have passed. here's a link on the story about Michael Jackson...I read the one about Farah earlier today...couldn't find it again...

It's all over CNN now. The next few days will be so hard for his family, friends, and fans. The picking over of his life will be hard to take.

Quilt4u 06-25-2009 03:51 PM

I just heard this when I got home from work They just confirmed the story is true. It seams it comes in threes.

beachlady 06-25-2009 04:04 PM

On NBC they reported that he died at 10 am and paramedics were not called until 12:20pm. They gathered all the family first before calling for help.

Strange.

Bevanger 06-25-2009 04:05 PM

Yessss I've been crying my eyes out since hearing this. He had a heart attack. He was just 2 yrs older then me and so I pretty much grew up with him. He'll be missed

sandpat 06-25-2009 04:42 PM

Yes, there will be a media blitz about Michael. You'd think they could focus on the more positive side...he was truly an artist!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 06-25-2009 05:26 PM

I'm a huge MJ fan, I'm so sad right now.
I don't care how many people say he is a nut case, he will always be a formidable artist and entertainer. I would have LOVED to have been able to see him in concert.

:(

earthwalker 06-25-2009 05:54 PM

Very sad to lose two such talents...they seem so young, but I guess that's because I'm heading toward 50 at a gallop. I worked out at the gymn to Michael's music and avidly watched Charlie's Angels when I was younger (along with the Bionic Woman), it was great to see "girl power" in action...seems like today I'm in a reminiscing mood...I'm heading off after my coffee to the CWA Op shop...saw some cool retro cotton curtains that are calling out to be made into a quilt.

I hope they both find peace and happiness wherever they may be now....

sewaholic 06-25-2009 06:02 PM

I am also a MJ fan. Yes he had some problems but he was and will remain one of the greatest artists in the music industry. I'm sure al lot of his antics were just publicity stunts anyway.

amma 06-25-2009 06:06 PM

I just heard that they are doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death, his family at the hospital did not know that he was dead while they were giving an update to the press about his condition, and that no one knew anything about a pre-existing condition.
The family is supposed to be making an official statement soon. :(

sharon b 06-25-2009 08:46 PM

Rough day for the Jackson family. So sad for everyone else. No matter what else he was an awesome entertainer

No argument here he was an amazing artist and entertainer, which I think is what made him eccentric (nut case). I don't think anyone can handle that kind of fame and public exposure and not lose touch with reality. Look at Elvis and Brittany too, same problem.

I just wonder when all the faked death rumours will start to surface.

tlrnhi 06-25-2009 09:55 PM

I was watching BBC America this morning and they reported that he had died. Was about 8am my time, which is about 6pm EST

PrettyKitty 06-25-2009 11:16 PM

Woke up to the news of his passing on the radio this morning here in the UK. So sad. I felt so sad, then they played 'You Are Not ALone' on the radio and I lost it, had a few tears.

k3n 06-25-2009 11:58 PM

My God - I haven't had TV or radio on so just got the news here from you guys - what a shock! I was an eighties teenageer so he was a real big part of my music scene. I remember when the video to Thriller came out we all sat up til 1am to see it because the BBC thought it too shocking to be shown any earlier; he was a great talent but I fear a very sad individual, twisted by his upbringing and subsequent life. I hope he is at peace now; it will be hard to avoid the media autopsies of his life that are bound to follow - but I'll try to.

Quilting Aggi 06-26-2009 02:54 AM

(
I just wonder when all the faked death rumours will start to surface.
) ooops I deleted too much... that last sentence was a quote from someone else on this thread.

they have already started... Trevor was looking at some video clippings and news reports this morning. There was one video we looked at where he was putting on his glasses and getting ready to get on a bus!! To me it looked like an impersonator as his skin pigment was much darker than what MJ's was now. but that's just me.... hmmmm makes you think... Maybe MJ knew where ELivs has been hiding out all these years... It worked for that king, perhaps they are both hiding out in some grass hut on an isolated tropical island??

But all jokes aside, yes it is tragic. I also grew up listening to his music. What person can say they didn't have his Thriller record!?? I played that to death! He had many ghosts in his closet, but he was a talented musician and the world will truly miss him.

Ninnie 06-26-2009 04:47 AM

I think we can seperate his personal life from his musical life.
He was a great performer and singer, but the thing I admired most was his ability to write lyrics and sit them to the right music. I saw him interviewed once about writing Billy Jean, he wanted to do a song with a great bass and said he woke up one morning and started playing in his head duut duut, duut duut and the song was born from there.Being a 3rd rate writer here, I can appreciate that about him. But, you have to admit his music was catchy, it can get in your head and stay there all day.I would have loved to have just a little of his ability to write lyrics and music!
I'm sure his mother will mourn for him. About the other members of his family, I don't know. I always thought they used him, and his father was a monster!!!

henryparrish76 06-26-2009 10:01 AM

I have always said dont talk ill of the dead but people are doing that with him. Why cant people just talk about his music and his contribution to the industry and what a great performer he was and just leave it at that instead of picking apart the life of a now dead man?

As for Farrah, she was a true beauty and my favorite thing she did wasn't Charlie's Angels but the movie she made called The Burning Bed. That movie was awesome and she was awesome in it. She shut her critics up when she made that movie.

But I have to say I am more sad about Farrah's passing. ( I was born at the tale end of Gen X)

Barbm 06-26-2009 10:45 AM

I never cared much for MJ. Just not my type of music, but he had talent and deserved his fame and fortune. His mental stabilty should have been questioned years ago. Lots of weirdness there.

I think Farrah should be mourned as she just produced a great documentary about her fight with cancer. Basically- saying to all- take care of your health. It is being overshadowed by MJ.

mytwopals 06-26-2009 10:56 AM

MJ was 50 years old and Farrah was 62. Ed McMahon died the day before, also. Not sure how old he was.

henryparrish76 06-26-2009 12:02 PM

I think Ed was 86.
