I finally decided, after some debate with myself, to start micro chipping my indoor cats. So, for Rudy's yearly exam, I arranged for him to be chipped.

Little bugger! The night before, doesn't he slip out the door!! He's done this before a couple of times but always stays in the back yard and returns in 15 mins when he figures out I'm not going to play the "chase the cat" game. :-(

Not this time! He not only stayed out for over two hours, he went into the neighbor's yard! You'd think with him being 95% white and, at 10pm, he'd be easy to spot but NOoooooo they couldn't see him and neither could I. Errrrr! So, we locked everyone else in the house and propped open the garage's side door. Sure enough, he eventually came home.

This little episode reinforced my decision to micro-chip everyone as their yearly exams come up. For $68, he's now chipped. Big needle, I cringed, he could have cared less. Vet said they all usually react more to being vaccinated than to be chipped. Go figure.

What they don't tell you is, even though they keep his chip ID on file in the office, they don't register it with anyone. That's the owner's responsibility using a form they give you. So, you can register them for $18.50 for one cat or $50 for up to five cats, one time fee. I have to give them a call to find out if I can register Rudy now, pay the $50, and register the others as their turn comes??

Rudy is my avatar. As you can see, if some critter doesn't gobble him up on his next escapade, he's so cute someone may decide to keep him or turn him into the Rescue league.

Has anyone had any experiences with chipping? Thanks.

Tink is chipped...but it is in the ex girlfriends name, because she worked at the place at the time. I don't know how to get that changed...if anyone does...could you please post it...

Both of my dogs have micro chips. Thank God I've never had to use it.

Rudy's chip (AVID technology) is thru a company called PETtrac (800-336-2843). In their application form, they list an "Information Change" option for $6. I'm guessing, if you don't already know the chip company's name, that you could go to your vet (or perhaps shelter) to have the chip read; the chip may contain the company name and/or number to call. Good luck!

Good grief! I just noticed my spelling error in the title! No, I'm not "shipping" Rudy anywhere, pest that he is! I had him "chipped." As if you guys couldn't guess that on your own!

We adopted our furry baby when he was 6 mos. old and was already chipped. I have him registered with PetWatch. I found out at his last vet visit that over time the chip does move. When scanned, it used to be around his shoulder area, now it's down the leg. No problems with it ever. I think they are a wonderful idea and thankfully so far we have never had to use it.

Thank you!...I am going to go and look at her "papers" maybe they have the info there...Thanks again...She doesn't even go into the back yard without us, but accidents happen, so I would like to be able to rest easy.

I chipped my French bulldog when he was young - thankfully have never had to use it. I have two more Frenchies that are due to have chips too. I think its a great idea - if they get lost or stolen - they can be identified easily.
