Million dollar blanket.

If you have old textiles maybe you should get them appraised. http://www.wimp.com/turnedaround/

I am crying for that man, what an unbelievable thing. Even if I saw a blanket on Antiques Road show similar to one I had, I wouldn't have followed through. Guess good things can still happen to people.

I saw the blanket and thought about all my Pendleton Woolen Mill blankets I have that are so bright and colorful and thought that this one was pretty but not a "look at me" blanket. I wonder what made that first man take his blanket to The Road Show? If I had it, I wouldn't have taken it there. I wouldn't have known it was anything special. Stupid me. Glad there are people out there who have a feeling about things and check into them and find out if they are special. I am so happy for the second man who sold his blanket. What a story!!! Just like "GreatStarter", I probably wouldn't have followed through. I probably wouldn't even know where to go to get it appraised. And my Pendleton Woolen Blankets that are so beautiful to look at? Probably not even worth what I paid for them. They're machine made.

What a great story. So wonderful to see someone like that man profit from ancestor's purchase! The rug IS unusual and beautiful. I studied Navajo rugs earlier this year when I made my 2 Navajo quilts, and I didn't see a single Chief's rug like it. Similar, but not exactly like it.

jbj137 11-15-2012 09:24 AM

It could not have happened to a more deserving person.

What a wonderful story. Many many years ago, I worked on a ranch in Colorado the summer that I graduated from high school. I spent all of my summer earnings on a Navajo blanket I had fallen in love with.
It does not have the provenance that this blanket does but it is my prized possession. I loved the story you shared and this man's good fortune!

captlynhall 11-16-2012 04:55 PM

I love this story. I teared up as the bids went higher and higher. This man seems like a genuine really nice guy that has has some very bad luck. I wish him the best with his new found wealth and hope he has the wisdom to handle it carefully.

SueDor 11-16-2012 05:15 PM
