This is actually a joke: Little boy came home from Sunday School and told his other they sang a song about a bear----Gladly the cross-eyed bear.

Mine was Adele's Chasing Pavement ... I heard "chasing penguins". I still love that visual image!

Huey Lewis and the News, "Walking on a Thin Line"...one of the lines is "Straight off the front line, labeled as freaks, loose on the streets of the city". My best friend swears, to this day, that the line is "little Dutch priests, loose on the streets of the city".
Seriously? Dutch priests? And little ones at that...yes, truly dangerous as they roam the city streets... |
When I was quite young we learned (or I thought I learned) a little chorus at church called "Sheltered O'er. I learned it as "Shut the Door"! Always took a bit of ribbing around home for that!

My mother tells about a boy named Rex at church who started crying when he heard the song: Rescue the Perishing, Care for the Dying. He thought they were saying Rex ate the paraffin, care for he's dying. He had taken the paraffin off his mother's jelly and thought he had been caught. We used to use paraffin to seal jelly jars when we didn't have rings & lids.

Does anyone remember that in the late 60's you could buy magazines that had the words to the songs, so if you were lucky enough to have one of those, it helped. Songs were slower in those days, so usually we got the words right.

I remember a friend who thought the Huey Lewis and the News song said the "The heart of rock and roll is in Cleveland" instead of "The heart of rock and roll is still beating". He couldn't figure out why it was in Cleveland. :D
Detroit!! Huh, heart of rock and roll" lol |
My son, now 30 years old, sang Whitney Huston's "Miss You Like Crazy" as "Miss You Like Gravy"
|
they sang----"well, I dont know why I came here tonight
I heard ------Well I dont like candy tonight Always wondered why they didn't like candy |
Rolling Stone's "Hey you get off my cloud, don't hang around cuz three's a crowd". Well he heard, "Hey Hugh get off Mcloud, don't hang around cuz three"s a crowd. He thought the song was about homosexuality. It still makes me laugh.
