Monogramming Shirt Sleeves
DH is wanting me to monogram his initials on his shirt sleeves. I've never done it and am wondering what type of stabilizer and what size? This is making me nervous for some reason.
|
Usually that is done before the shirt is made...wouldn't they show thru on the inside? Maybe they wouldn't be visible.
|
I would use a stabilizer on the inside but I don't have an embroidery machine. How will you get the initials going the right way on the sleeve without opening the seam?

I agree with QuiltnNan. I would take the cuff off and open it up to do the work so it would not show on the other side.

pratice on an old shirt or his trousers!

Oh wow! This really is much more work than I thought it would be! |
I just lay the cuff in an embroidery hoop and monogram the initials. Who sees the other side of the cuff anyway. It's against the skin. I use a tear away backing.

I would use a wash away stabilizer so it doesn't 'shine' thorough the fabric. And you will need a small hope that you can fit in the sleeve. It won't be easy, but it is possible. Practice on old shirts that would be discarded or make some sample tubes the same width as his sleeves. If the embroidery is to be on the cuff, I'd also use a wash away stabilizer. The embroidery will be on the inside of the cuff too, but no one will see that. If you use an adhesive wash away, you won't have to hoop the cuff. Just center it and lay it on the sticky stabilizer. Again, practice on an old shirt first.

My DH has been wanting me to monogram his shirts, too. But I don't know how and this thread has helped me a lot. I think I'll try the wash away stabilizer and not use a hoop. Thanks for the info!
