More about those pesky beetles
First of all, I believe we have so many more Japanese beetles and other worms and insects This year is because we had such a mild winter. At least that is what I read in a gardening article. They not only love my roses, but can't get enough of my Crepe Myrtle trees. I have found that using the jet spray on my hose to knock them off each day helps. Trouble is it must be done every day because they keep coming back. I not only had more of them this year, but they seemed to stay around longer than usual. Thankfully, the roses and myrtle trees are the only thing they seem to like in my garden.

My daughter now lives in North Carolina (wilmington) and she is encountering some new insects that she never knew existed. Yesterday she told me her kitchen had some "lawn shrimp" bugs. That was a new one to me, too.

I hate bugs! Thank heavens for Orkin.

There is a product called milky spore you can put on the ground(and grass) around the plants that are most vunerable to the beetles. It will kill the grubs in the soil so they can't hatch. It lasts for years.

I am looking for the milky spore to treat our lawn for the Japanese beetles this year. So far no luck and I may need to wait until the gardening stuff comes next spring. A lot of pesticides and herbicides are banned in Canada now.

Thanks so much for that info. Will definitely try that. Kitsy |
