Some traps have peanut butter, slim jims, and chocolate, He has a buffet. He went after the slim jim, but did not get it. How much of this stuff do you use???(All traps have different stuff, not all on one trap)

Since it wat rats, I think my DH used about a teaspoon, probably less for a mouse. Its funny, we also have possums running the fence as well. One time we heard the trap snap and ran and flipped on the back light to watch a possom flip the trap off his paw. My dogs love to ram the fence and bounce the critters (possoms or rats) off the fence into the yard. I think the critters have learned to hang on to the fence better if the dogs are around.

Thanks, I don't think I've been putting enough of anything on the traps. I'll try more tonight. I also heard they like bacon and to tie a pc on. We are having some for dinner tonight, so tonights menu is bacon, peanutbutter, wish me luck!!

I would try bacon grease or peanut butter. More likely to get it if it has to work at getting it's meal.
Cats may sound like a good idea. But a cat likes to play with them until the wear them out and then may kill them(if they don't get away first-which is most likely to happen).

If nothing else, you are worrying that mouse into high blood pressure!

You are 100% right. The only problem is that for Thanksgiving I'm having a ton of company, and mice dropping all over the place isn't what I want for my Fall decorations. :oops: And I'm a germ freak in my kitchen and that's his bathroom, all over my dishtowels, the kitchen counter and the corner pantries next to the sink. :x At least he can't get into too much quickly, it's all in plastic. If he were house trained he could stay :roll:

Maybe you need a different style of trap. They've changed the way the old snap traps are set and they just don't works as well as they used to. I went to the hardware store and found a new style trap that works really, really well. They look sort of like big clips. They're very easy to set and they're very sensitive and go off really easy.

I'm from the old school of "Better dead than alive" when it comes to mousies in the house (except quiltboard members)

Glue traps work because the guys get stuck, try to free themselves, and smother painlessly. Poisons are effective, but with other critters, not a great option. Sledgehammers create a lot of unintended damage. Those sonic repellents you plug in are useless.

I'd say it's time to get a cat involved!
