I grew up at the local movie theaters. My Dad was an avid fan too so we had many family outings there too.

Fast forward about 30+years. It's been so long since I was last a the movies, I'm thinking at least 4 years and several states ago.

I just happened to look at a site of a local theater, it's $8.00 for an adult matinee!!!!

$10.75 at night
$12.00 3D matinee
$14.75 3D night
$17.25 IMAX adult

I just wait the few months and rent it. Altho' it's been forever since I found anything worth seeing and it costs the same as "on demand" thru our cable. $4.99.

I also read that Blockbuster is reinstituting the late fee charges. The more convenient one to us closed months ago and the other one is just a pain to get to so we don't do that anymore. Hubby doesn't want the expense of Netflix as we won't watch that many to make it worth our while.

wow, I haven't been to the movies in years,

Our movie theater cost $6.00 which includes a small popcorn and a soda.

We use Neflix most of the time. The instant view feature is so nice.

We have matinees that are around $6, I think - the early movie cost more than the 4:00 and the evening are REDICULOUS! The smallest popcorn is around 5.75 and the hot dog is around $5.00 What do young guys d for a date? It would cost him $100 before the evening is over! The REDBOX! THAT is the way to go!! New movies and they cost only $1.00!!

LOL, the last time I went to a theater the movie was so bad we walked out. It was some Pierce Brosnan thing that my friend wanted to see--The Matador or something like that, STINKO and every other word was the big F bomb. Only saw about 15 minutes of it. Before that was Will Smith in Wild Wild West, and before that was Liam Neeson in Rob Roy. It was good but anything he's in usually is. Big fan. Needless to say, we don't go to movies very often. I had no idea they were so much. I was planning on taking the GGD's to see the new Shrek movie when we get to Texas---maybe not. Maybe I'll just buy them each a DVD.

I go to the Redbox machines at our supermarkets to rent movies for $1 each. I can't get over how expensive movies are now.

I try to see the movie before 6 pm. I don't watch the 3-D ones unless it's something I really want to see in 3-D effects

Luckily for me, I have one of those "dollar theaters" nearby. :)

I agree with all the others! We only go to the movies when a friend of ours gets "premier passes" At least then we only have to pay for popcorn! And that we split because of the cost.

we have an old theater that has been redone and it shows first run movies, classics and the summer they do classes. The cost is $6 for a matinee. Hubby and I can have date night for $20.

And the seats are cushy and nice. All the money stays local- I like that!

I think everyone needs to be awed by something every once in a while and a big movie screen with digital surround sound showing a special effects movie is awesome!
