So last night, we were watching "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" on DVD, and it's set (mostly) in Hawaii at a luxury hotel. I kept getting distracted by the beautiful Hawaiian applique on the dining room chairs and tablecloths (and hoping that it was a print and that someone didn't have to make all those by hand!), and then the really gorgeous quilted & appliqued pillows on all the beds (completely distracting me from the sex scene happening on top of the pillows).

"The Birdcage" has some really nice star quilts that show up in Senator Keeley's New England home. The one on the bed was a white-on-white.

And I'm wondering what other people's favorite "quilt movies" are?

Yes, the Birdcage was a good one. When it gets close to Halloween, be sure to watch Sleepy Hollow (the one with Johnny Depp) There are some wonderful old looking quilts there.

My DH loves to watch old westerns ... they have some really cool quilts on the beds in the hotels!

I loved watching them make the quilt, in How to make an American Quilt

Yes, but did you see what she did with it? I noticed she was walking down a driveway, dragging it in the dirt. UGH!

I just remembered another one (that I'm going to have to re-watch), and it's an unexpected source -- Star Trek: Insurrection. I'm going to have to get a screen capture of the art quilt in that movie (and I think they may have actually given credit for it in the credits...)

Yes, it was beautiful! And I would loved to have seen it a bit longer.

That's my favorite one too. Dragging the quilt wasn't called for though

I'll have to add that movie to my list. The worst "textile abuse" I've seen was in "Elizabeth" (the Kate Blanchette movie). There was a guy wearing a cape with the most beautiful and intricate embroidery (and I KNOW it was done by hand by some costumer) all along the edges... well the character got stabbed to death and died in a small stream - so the cloak got fake blood on it AND was put in the water!

I always pause there.
