Movies or books that scarred the pants off of us

There are some movies and/or books that scarred the dickens out of me, both as a kid and as an adult.

One of the movies that gave me nightmares for years (I was 6 or 7 when I saw it) was "The Giant Behemoth". Behemoth was a huge sea serpent and it was a typical grade B movie. Only problem...I lived a couple of houses away from New York harbor and was convinced the behemoth was going to destroy my house!

As an adult, the book "Cujo" by Stephen King literally scarred the **** out of me. I still have nightmares. I could never, ever bring myself to see the movie.

What are yours??????

Psycho's shower scene really scared me! I had to lock the bathroom door and was still kind of freaked out in the shower for months. The good news is I took really fast showers!

The Birds scared me, too. Its probably why I still don't much like birds.

Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds". I love birds but every time I watch the movie I'm scared of them for a few days.

Dark Shadows. When I was a child I had nightmares about Barnabus Collins. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I had to stop watching it near the beginning because it terrified me. By the way, Steven King said that he didn't remember writing Cujo. He was using drugs when he wrote it.

I saw The Creature from the Black Lagoon while on a double-date, 100 years ago, at a drive-in movie. (Did I tell you it was 100 years ago?) I was in the front seat holding a large soft drink when the creature rose out of the lake the first time. The contents of the cup and the cup landed in the lap of the guy sitting in the back seat. What a mess! The whole thing scared the bejiggers out of me!!

"The Birds". Saw it very young.

The witch in the Wizard of Oz. Also a scene I still find disturbing, from Pinocchio, where the naughty boys turn into donkeys.

Carrie did it for me....esp the end where her classmate is reaching down at the graveyard and a hand grabs her....I almost pooped myself.

The book that scared me, (I kept asking myself, Why am I reading this?) was Silence of the Lambs. It was so frightening I still haven't watched the movie. The most frightening movie must have been "JAWS". I still hate the ocean - will not swim where the fish are bigger than I am and want to eat me.

There is an Alfred Hitchcock tv show that I still scares me - and I saw it back in the '60's.
