All of a sudden a tremendous tempest from 23:00-05:00 am
yesterday changed lives for ever.
Power went out and all that could be heard was the noise of
water falling and running. A real tragedy in the darkness.

nativetexan 01-13-2011 12:25 PM

i just read a 13 yr old told rescuers to take his brother to safety first and then the 13 yr old didn't make it. so very sad.

Deecee 01-13-2011 12:39 PM

My prayers are with people in both areas suffering during these floods.

I am fortunate that I live about 1,300 km. from the flood area in Australia. We are watching live TV footage each day and it is heartbreaking.

redquilter 01-13-2011 12:49 PM

I pray daily for all who are suffering though this devastation in both countries. It's so very sad.

Having been through Katrina, I can partially understand your pain. I hope you can get all the help you need.

Thank you.
My house is safe away from mountains and rivers.
I feel sorry for all others.
There are families counting 10, 15 losses each.

Lindy - I spoke too soon didn't I.

I have nothing like others are experiencing but I have just come inside after digging out blocked drains and trying to divert runoff that is coursing down my yard. My aviaries are again 4inches deep in water.

I'm just thankful that's all I have to contend with.

lindyline 01-13-2011 05:22 PM

Hey Deecee, I ws doing that yesterday!!
Nice to know it's not just me!!!

Quiltforme 01-14-2011 12:56 AM

My daughters friends dad is there and they have not heard from him in days. WE have you all in our prayers.

lindyline 01-14-2011 01:01 AM

Yes it's getting interesting over here now. Only Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory remain unflooded. Every state is experiencing some degree of flooding. Looks like Melbourne itself may flood somewhat overnight. Aint the weather just grand!!

Wings 01-14-2011 01:09 AM

Our flood has taken many lives, given us scenes of horror we never thought we would see in small farming communities as the terrible waters tore down off the Toowoomba range and into the valley below, taking whole towns with it. The Brisbane River broke its banks and thousands of homes are flooded here. Today the waters began to recede and left stinking mud and ruined homes and possesions. However what we have gained is an incredible sense of community as neighbour helped neighbour and strangers came and cleaned houses for people they had never met before. We have a wonderful State Premier who rallied us all in the dark moments and we will all never be the same again in this state. My house is safe and dry though I was flooded as a child so I know the feeling. I count my blessings looking round my soggy yard and at the blue skies today. My heart goes out to Brazil.

arimuse 01-14-2011 06:41 AM

dear Ligia, I hope you are safe and if you are I hope you can get power, water and food in the next days. The pictures from Brazil are terrible, it seems no part of the planet is calm these days. The pictures and map illistrations of Australia are bad, too. Storms all over the place. share t

sandpat 01-14-2011 07:04 AM

Ligia...stay safe dear...this is all so sad for all the families..I don't know what is happening with the world weather..its horrid!

My heart goes out to all those in Australia, Brazil and all other places with these terrible tragedies.

lindyline 01-14-2011 12:34 PM

Ligia, please be safe. Our news services have been so focused on the Australian floods, and only now have we realised how bad you have it in Brazil. One months rainfall ina day, and so many oives lost. Makes our floods almost seem insignificant.

Margie 01-14-2011 01:08 PM

God bless you and keep you safe.

grammyj 01-14-2011 04:31 PM

Breaks my heart to see all the tragedies in Australia and Brazil. So sad, praying for help and comfort for all.

kbs 01-14-2011 04:35 PM

I watch Australia's flooding on the weather channel, so many people are in danger. I hope all of you come out of this are able to rebuild. I feel so bad for the families who have lost relatives.

jljack 01-14-2011 04:35 PM

With all this flooding in Brazil and Australia, let's all keep these souls in our prayers and thoughts. Please everyone keep safe and out of harms way.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of that country

b.zang 01-14-2011 06:33 PM

So glad to see this post, ligia.
My heart did a flip-flop on my way home tonight when I heard the news reporter say where he was standing in the midst of the hardest hit city in Brazil. I recognized the place and immediately thought of you and came here.
You might not be my quilt angelee anymore, but you'll always hold a special place in my heart's store of fond memories.

toodie11 01-14-2011 10:36 PM

We are praying for you, God bless and take care

jitkaau 01-14-2011 10:38 PM

This news was running here at the same time as some towns here were getting a second dose. Everyone understood what you are going through. All loss of life is tragic in these circumstances and my condolences that it is such a large number in your country.
The army and volunteers are assisting with clean up and building assessment as the flooding continues in other areas.I have volunteered to do sewing related jobs so should be busy for a while. (Should be really good at making curtains when I am finished).

Suziuki 01-14-2011 10:59 PM

The authorities in Queensland have been asking for volunteers to help with the clean up. These volunteers have to register so that they can be placed in areas where they have a skill that can be utilised. I have just heard that in Brisbane they were expecting between 2,000 and 3,000 people to register, they have had 50,000 people register as volunteers. It is so heart warming to hear that people are not waiting for government assistance and handouts, they are doing what needs to be done, the recovery from such devastation will be greatly shortened with this attitude.

Dotsie 01-14-2011 11:25 PM

In my church our logo SOUTH AFRICA RETURN TO GOD. We put up banners all over the country and stickers on our cars and entrance gates. May be that is what the whole world should do and live by it.

Alondra 01-15-2011 06:18 PM

Australia AND Brazil - it's almost too horrible to contemplate. God bless those who have suffered through these floods, especially those who have lost family members and homes.

cheryl rearick 01-15-2011 10:23 PM

I am so very sorry
