I don't understand the mentality of people who take what isn't theirs to take. I am so sorry you have to deal with the headache (and the heartache).

I have been an Elna girl from the beginning (with a short foray into the Kenmore world) and have always been pleased with Elna products. You can use Janome feet and attachments on the 8300 and it is still workhorse of a machine. I've made plenty of quilts on my machine but also made upholstery covers for my parents' handcrafted furniture and am now working on a sheer batiste christening gown. You will not be disappointed in the Elna which gives you a lot of machine for your hard earned dollars.

I have an Elna 6600, it is OK, BUT the foot assembly is not as well machined as the old Elnas were. I do not like the way the spool holders work in the 6600 either. It has been designed by someone that knows nothing about sewing!!!!
The spool is held the wrong way so the thread feeds off the top of the spool - and does lead to bunchy tangles -instead of unrolling the normal way. Althougth they added an upright spool holder, it is still clumsy. I have a little old Elna Air Electronic Stella, that is quite battered, but outsews ALL of the other sewing machines I have ever tried, because of the design of the foot and teeth although it only sewes a straight and zig-zag stitch! I would suggest you spend some time trying out others, I say this regretfully, too! |
Ladies, thank you sincerely for your heart-warming comments. I will NEVER again leave my car out of the garage or with anything of value inside. Like I said, I was in a very upscale neighborhood and never dreamed anyone would have the slightest interest in a 25-yr. old machine. I couldn't have been MORE wrong.
I'm delighted to share good news. My X-husband found, bid on, bought an Elna like mine (NOT mine, but LIKE it) and is having it shipped to me. I'm flabbergasted. Not a gesture I would have expected him to make. It's coming from FL and should be here (AZ) in a week. I'll have it serviced and let you know how it runs. I'm overjoyed, humbled, excited, and feeling very UN-worthy of his generosity. I'll immediately record the serial number and put it to work churning out more quilts - photos of which I'll share here. Thank you all for your advice, suggestions, concerns and good wishes. |

I am so sorry about your Elna. Mine is about 15 years old and I love it. I have a new Janome and it seems to be pretty interchange items like feet and stuff. I hope you get your old one back because the first is your best.

People who do stuff like this, should have a lifetime of bad luck, what pigs, and that is too kind of a word for them, I am so sorry this has happened to you.
