Well, been quilting on the baby quilt for two days and my fingers are killing me, I've tried the thimbles but feel ackward using it. When you a quilting by hand what do you use?

Colonial needle makes a finger tip thimble called Ultra Thimble. One size fits all. Has a sticky pad to keep it on your finger tip and can switch if from finger to finger easily. Couldn't quilt without one!

I used to use these wonderful leather thimbles that Hersherners (sp?) sold for less than 2 dollars. Then they changed them and they are hard vinyl now. So I bought one of those new thimbles with the metal bottom and rubber up the side. It holds on my finger very well, but I'm still trying to get comfortable with it. I have bought the expensive leather thimbles, but my dog seems to enjoy them. I have heard of some people using a little piece of adhesive tape on the end of their finger.

I use a white leather thimble the kind Herschners use to sell. There are a few seller on ebay that sell them for around $5. Do a search on ebay LEATHER THIMBLE.

I have a sort of soft plastic thimble - I forget who makes them. Fits my finger much more comfortably than metal. I still found it awkward at first, but after a few days got used to using it and it really saves my fingertip.

I use a thimble on my right hand. It took a while getting used to using by can't do a stitch without one now. I have quite a few thimbles from antique to high tech. I prefer one very old, metal one that fits my finger like it was made just for that finger. Cost 10 cents, brand new, about 1930. (Grandmom's thimble)

a bandaid.....I've tried several thimbles and couldn't get comfortable with them. cheap plastic bandaids from the dollar store work great though for me.
