My first attempt at making a stuffed animal turned out great!

OK, I'm trying this again. After a year off sewing due to a bad flare-up of my Rheumatoid Arthritis, I'd forgotten how to post photos. Thanks for your advice.
anyway..... I made this soft fleece "Greyson" Bear for my grandson's first birthday. I learned about safety eyes & nose and though I don't know how to embroider, my handstitching a small smile looks cute. Greyson loves it, both at the party, and according to my daughter, at home. ...I just saw this and wonder where my other uploaded photos are. Are only 2 allowed? I also made the quilt wallhanging over my bed. The blond Granny is me. |
Really cute and looks like it is already being loved on!
Looks like it is a hit!
Neat animal and beautiful little one. Enjoy!
It is, thanks!
My son-n-law didn't get it at first that I actually made it, then was amazed. Flattering and very satisfactory!
We adopted our beautiful daughter from Korea when she was 5months old. Her baby's face is identical to hers, in fact when I put same age photos of the 2 of them together, people think it's the same baby with different hairstyles (she had little girl straight across bangs even as a baby). My grandson is just as happy and easy going as she was too. I'm so blessed.

Your bear is adorable as well as your grandson, well really the whole family!!! I do not know why the rest of your photos did not post, try again!!!
darling bear, darling boy.
It turned out awesome! Beautiful family, too. :)
What a great idea to use fleece for the be4ar. You pictures appear to be larger than normal. If you check in the QB help, there are instruction and advice on the size of photos. I reduce all my photos in size and to 75dpi with a photo program by Adobe and it works great. I do it when I am downloading the photos off my camera onto the computer.
Good job, great bear!
Beautiful family! You did a great job on the bear and I love seeing your grandson's expressions. He obviously loves his bear and his grandma.
A very cute bear!
How precious is he! And the bear is adorable, too.

more Greyson Bear photos
I've been asked to try again to post the other pix, so here goes.
Again, it didn't work. ManiacQuilter2 gave me advice, but I don't know how to do that. I just have such a hard time learning stuff on the computer. I may post a couple of photos now and then and try to "get it". Sorry 'bout this. I'll make replies, and read to enjoy and learn from all of you. |
Too cute kiddo and bear!!!
Adorable pictures. And a precious little somebody very much wants your stuffed animal - great job!

That is a cute bear... and even cuter grandbaby!
Awwww!! Cute, cute.
How cute is that....Adorable..
Love it...I am not one to ask...do you have a pattern...but I so want to make one like that for my granddaughter's Bday and that is the perfect size. Did you use a pattern or just wing it.
Your bear is so cute and you have such an adorable little boy!
Good heavens, No, I did not wing it! I did use a pattern. I came across 2 different ones that are really easy because there are only 2 pieces! You cut one, double fabric, and sew them together to make the front, then the other piece is cut double to make the back. So, there is the front seam, the back seam, and the side seams. I put a personalized tag on the last opening in back used to stuff the filling in. Be sure to put the safety eyes & nose on before you sew the side seams together; you need the front flat and separate. I found the safety eyes & nose at Joann Fabrics in different sizes. They're like earrings but when the "posts" in back are squeezed on, it's stuck together forever!
---Simplicity 8044 (variety of animals, not only bears) I used this one, bought at Joann's ---Carol's Zoo (different patterns for various animals) online Since I already have the Simplicity, I'll stick with that for now. I want to make a puppy, but with perk-up ears (I'll "wing" that). I've talked my cousin to join me at my daughter's beach house next year for our own little sewing retreat. I'm going to go prepared to make several of these toys for all my cousins' grandchildren+my sister's new one and my 1yr old. Fun! hope this helps! |
That is a cute bear... and even cuter grandbaby!....... What did you stuff him with? .......and how much did you use?
Thank-you! I am going to pick up that pattern.

To tell you the truth, I don't know what kind of stuffing I used; someone had given it to me just in a bag, no label. As to how much, I just put in enough for shape, but not so much that the arms & legs couldn't flop. I wanted it to sit up on it's own, yet wrap around the child while in a hug, which my little guy does.

Thanks everyone. I'm no longer afraid to try to make any kind of stuffed animal. I have the idea to make one by strip piecing multicolored prints into a big enough amount to cut the pattern pieces. That will be a very fun, colorful animal. I might quilt batting underneath too. A real Quilt Bear (or Bunny or Puppy).
