...and when I mean "stole" I mean she asked me if she could steal it for her MySpace and Facebook and I gave her permission. This is the second time she's liked my work and asked to steal with permission. Personally, Morgan Lander "stealing" my work has been the best thing that's happend to me the past two weeks. So yeah...I'm feeling freaking awesome!

And here's the first one she "stole": http://kamikazecharlotte.deviantart....over-104562913

Wow - amazing! You've got real talent girl!

Flying_V_Goddess 02-17-2010 06:32 PM

Thanks!

I don't quite get this. Why is it good that someone is stealing your artwork? Does it get you free publicity that results in sales? Is the person "stealing" your art someone whose name we should recognize?

Have you considered selling your art on one of those design-your-own T-shirt websites?

zz-pd 02-17-2010 06:36 PM

congragulations and nice work!

She's the lead singer of my favorite band, Kittie. She's the blond one in the drawings.

Well, she's not nessicarly stealing it. She did give me credit for it. She just asked if she could use it for a couple of her personal pages. It gives me some publicity because she has a lot of people that go to her MySpace and Facebook, but it doesn't result in sales because I don't sell my art (I have to have PayPal to sell art on deviantart.com and I need a bank account for that and I don't have money to open a bank account). It more about that my idol liked my artwork and personally told me so rather than the publicity...and this is the second time she's complimented me on a piece of my artwork. Its pretty awesome seeing them in her photo galleries...and the latest one is the avatar on her MySpace page now. :)

Cool cartoon.

Okay, got it now. Yes, it's awesome to get recognition from someone you idolize!

If you don't even have enough money to start a bank account, then you really should think about getting some income by selling your work on deviantart.com.

I don't know what terms deviantart.com requires, since I can't find them. (Maybe I'd be able to see them if I registered?) But if all they want is a PayPal account, you can have a PayPal account with no money in it.

Yes, to open a PayPal account, you need a bank account, but do a little research. Many banks and credit unions have free (no fees) checking account programs where you can open an account for as little as $5. Or perhaps you need $25 to open it but you can then withdraw $20 of it and keep a minimum balance of $5.

If you don't have the $5 to start an account with, ask someone you know who admires your work to loan you the $5 and you'll repay them as soon as you make enough to withdraw money from your PayPal account. One $15 sale, and you can pay back the loan.

Of course, I realize I may be sticking my nose into your business and you may not want to do any of that. But your art is good, it would sell, you could make money... and I sure wish I had your talent!

I totally love the Canadian take over! If that was on a shirt, I would totally buy it! LOL!
"and we shall rule it politely!"

You've made my day!

Funny you mention it on a shirt...when Morgan posted that one on her MySpace her caption for it was "Being polite is the new black".

Just have to jump in here... With your talent, there's no way to be broke!! I know nothing about you, but you have a marketable skill for sure. Think outside the box. Check with a printing company, wallpaper manufacturer, carpet maker, billboard advertising co. etc. All these places use graphic artists and they all aren't "profesionally" trained. In fact, you can't teach your talent. It's a gift!! You would be a natural to longarm quilting since the very best ones can "draw anything."
Good luck to you and I hope to hear great things from you.

Well.........everyone on here quilts and quite a few of those quilts those quilters make are quite beautiful and stunning and they're really good at what they do. But I don't see every quilter on here setting up shop and selling every piece they make. And I don't see why I have to go profit from every single thing I make.

Everyone thinks that I should just jump into the frying pan and make something of myself with what I can do ASAP or otherwise I'm letting it go to waste. Can't I just be happy making art for my own personal satisfaction and showing others "Hey! Look at what I made!" and "Hey! My idol LOVED my work and wanted to use it for herself (with permission!"? Maybe in the future I'll want to profit from my art. But for now I'm perfectly happy with what I'm doing with it now. I'm only 22 (going on 23) and I got a whole lifetime to figure out what to do with my artistic talents so there's no need to rush in and try and make a mountain of money off it.

really neat

If I didn't have the money to open a bank account I would sure try to make money off my "talent" if possible no matter how old I was.

Ditter43 07-26-2010 12:50 PM

You go girl!!

C.Cal Quilt Girl 07-26-2010 11:02 PM

Can't agree more with the comcern of making money from your art, but what if someone came in changed a few things made a grip load from your original talent!! Might be worth, at least checking with your local SBA, may have some free recomendationd, lots of retired, knowledgable people out there willing to help. Who knows until you ask!!
Good Luck !!

I love that - how wonderful that someone you admire likes your work and she asked you for permission. That is just delicious. WOW! And your stuff is stunning - my nephew who is 14 and loves manga etc said I thought it was only old ladies who do stuff on this site, but that is kewl(Cool). LOL. There goes his chance of getting those waterproof apple headphones he was angling for.
