Is it my imagination?

I am embarrassed to post this but, what the heck? The last couple of nights while in my quilting room, I have sensed something sort of like little pinches or insects on my legs but when I look, there's nothing there. There are no pets so that's not an issue. My sewing room is clean and I have white carpet so it should be easy to spot any potential infestation. I have heard of silver light moths??? I don't see any signs of moths or anything else out of the ordinary. I don't notice this anywhere else in my home. Is there anything else I should be looking for? Should I fumigate with a bug bomb just in case?

Do you have a rash or any other 'evidence' of a bite or sting?

katkat1946 09-12-2012 07:24 AM

Hope you get an answer - this is weird!!! Do you store fabric with starch on it? I've heard that this can attract insects.

joyce888 09-12-2012 07:41 AM

Does it only happen at night and only in your sewing room? Does it happen aftering you've been standing for some time? I get what feels like very light electrical shocks in my legs when I've worked out (on treadmill with an incline or the elliptical) a little longer or have been standing on a hard surface for some time. Also is your sewing machine sitting on front of a window that could be attracting very tiny insects that can get thru a closed window?

Are you wearing pants or are your legs exposed? I would suggest talking to your doctor, sounds like a nerve problem to me, not a bug problem.

Tashana 09-12-2012 07:55 AM

Can it be a position you are sitting in? Eons ago, I had this weird pain in my shoulder. Could not be a repetitive stress movement but when I switched to headphones at work as opposed to a regular phone it all went away. If you are in the same position every day for hours maybe you are pinching a nerve that gives you that feeling. I would try different chair or a pillow before I call the exterminator.

nativetexan 09-12-2012 08:09 AM

all of the above, but don't try a bomb. i always worry about those things since we all have furnaces and heaters that have pilot lights. perhaps something you can shake out of a can into the carpet, then later vacuum up. good luck.

DogHouseMom 09-12-2012 08:36 AM

Another possibility ... perhaps an electrical device (or cord) has a break or thin spot and the carpet is picking up and transferring small amounts of charge up your legs.

Unless you have bug bites or a rash on your legs, I think it is physical. Sounds kind of like a circulatory or nerve problem. I get pins and needles sensation if I cross my legs now. Try a softer cushion on your chair in case you are putting pressure on your nerves in your legs.

delma_paulk 09-12-2012 10:09 AM

Could it be your circulation???? I find that after a day of living that my legs will tingle and swell a bit.

nativetexan 09-12-2012 01:24 PM

now that I think of it, I do get a sensation once in awhile of something going across the top of my foot. nothing there, just my nerves. so look into that too.

luce321 09-12-2012 02:14 PM

It may be "restless legs". You can get a feeling of something crawling on your legs and you feel the urge to move them and cannot keep them still. I get it now and them and it is miserable. It usually happens when you sit down to relax or when you get into bed at nite. Just a suggestion.

kuntryquilter 09-13-2012 05:19 AM

It could possibly be the way you are sitting, you could be pinching a nerve. Try moving around in your chair and see if that helps.

Do you have a plant in the room? We have a plant in our computer room and sometimes I start feeling gnats or mites around me. Sometimes I see them sometimes I just get feelings as you are describing. I put a drop(just a drop or two-too much will kill the plant) of liquid dish detergent in the water and water the plant. This kills off the gnats. I learned this from my mother.
So, if you have a plant, give this a try.

Are you Diabetic?
It could be Neuropathy.

sew_Tracy 09-13-2012 08:14 AM

perhaps mites? I am allergic to paper mites (hence I keep my book collection wrapped in plastic) and sometimes they also munch on cloth (minuscule amounts so we don't notice).

Stitchit123 09-13-2012 08:17 AM

'NO SEE UMS''they do exist. While visiting my Mom in Fla yrs ago the same thing was happening to me and she laid a paper towel on the table and handed me a magnifying glass there were hundreds off them but move the glass and I could not see them.

DJinSC 09-13-2012 09:56 AM

I agree with most here. Consider what position your legs are in when you feel this. Are you cutting off circulation somehow? Does it stop if you change position?

institches33 09-14-2012 04:31 AM

Are you on a water pill for blood pressure? Had to change my meds...very creepy feeling in my legs at night.

mcar 09-14-2012 05:34 AM

Could be circulation. At night at times I feel something strange near or above an ankle and actually see a tiny vein forming below the skin, but near the surface. Weird but not worrisome. Sometimes there is not sign of anything happening. Probably just nerves jangling!

MaryAnnMc 09-14-2012 06:03 AM

Actually, I've had the same problem while sitting at my computer. My DH had it in bed (after having been sitting at the computer). Turns out we have very tiny ants that are extremely hard to see, they're almost clear. But they have a big bite!

Next time you sit down to sew, have some scotch tape handy. If you feel a bite, stick it quick with tape and see if you don't catch one of the little buggers.

joyce j 09-14-2012 08:05 AM

I had that ,an turns out it is neuropathy. A nerve condition. joyce j

Grandma Mary 09-14-2012 08:21 AM

Sounds to me like it might be your legs. Could it be the way your sitting? Are you cutting off part of the circulation in your legs? Sort of pins and needles kind of thing?

carolynjo 09-14-2012 11:40 AM

Try this to rule out bugs: rub your legs and ankles with a sheet of Bounce. If there are no more bites, then you have a bug problem. If the feeling persists, try your doctor.

Catlady 09-16-2012 11:03 AM

it could be neuropathy, or PAD. Have your doctor check it out.

sewnsewer2 09-16-2012 02:44 PM

Maybe it is no see ums. We have those here.

I think so too! Kind of like when your arms or legs Go to sleep, you getthis numb prickly sensation. I get this in my hip if I sit for long periods and my thigh actualy feels like something is crawling on it.
