I typically don't make New Years resolutions but this year I made myself a series of promises to myself .

First and foremost was to do at least one thing a month to help a stranger. I completed my January task this morning by donating 10" + of my hair to Locks of Love. Now I just have a shoulder length bob and I confess I have no idea what to do with it.

The stylist cut the lengths off, but my son and I mailed the package. He was so excited! I'm planning on including him in all my adventures.

I figure I'll save a fortune in shampoo and conditioner but mostly it just feels good to do something unselfish.
I encourage everyone to consider a personal promise such as my own. Small steps make our world a better place.

I like your promise. I think I will try it.

Random acts of kindness can be giving hair. Leave an area cleaner than you found it ex: public bathroom, breakroom at work, roadside litter pickup etc. Also paying for the coffee of the next person line. And the list goes on. You hair donation is amazing gift.:)

Great idea, I think I'll do the same. (except the hair)
I don't have enough length to donate.
Thanks for the inspiration.

I like your idea. I have a running list and I'll add your ideas . One of the things is to pick up trash down at the park. We'll even take our pooper scooper as a sad number of people will not clean up after their pets.

Wonderful thing for you to do!!!

It would be good for all of us to something little to make someone else's life a little better.
my daughters have donated to locks of love several times. My DD#2, who's pregnant with my first grandchild is donating some hair again on the 10th. Hers grows fast enough to donate every year!!

Ladyjanedoe 01-03-2011 11:09 AM

I wish mine grew quickly but it's simply too fine in texture. It was time to take it off. I had been putting off a trim for quite some time.I'm glad there was a place I could send it. Makes me feel not so bad about such a big change.

I'm really impressed with people who do this many times. I'll start growing mine again I think.

QuiltingGrannie 01-03-2011 11:13 AM

I donated 23 Inches to Locks of Love in July 2009. I had cut 21" in 1994 and donated that one too. Now I plan on keeping the short hair.
Great cause. A few months later a former classmate of mine who was going through chemo had a wig - same color as my hair! We like to think it was a 'small world'.

That is really awesome, when I was going through treatments my DGD cut her hair off and had them make a wig just for me. I was thrilled.
Thank you for your act of kindness!!

Aww how sweet of her but I do not look good as a blonde!

Sadiemae 01-03-2011 12:41 PM

Wonderful! I would donate mine, but I have to color mine and it has to be natural.

sewwhat85 01-03-2011 07:44 PM

how nice

CarrieAnne 01-03-2011 07:48 PM

What a great thing to do!

SherriB 01-03-2011 09:11 PM

That is wonderful resolution!! My DD gave over 20+++ inches a few years ago.

I had something very nice done for me this evening. I took the grandbabies to Walmart and was loading the groceries into the back of my Honda. A very nice lady next to me offer to tak my buggy back with hers to the buggy rack. I truly appreciated it!!! It is cold and I didn't want to leave the kids, (Lexi 5 and Gabe 21mths) and was going to take them with me. The lady left before I could thank her again. I hope she knows how much her kindness was appreciated.

great new yrs resolution

What a great inspiration for all of us......

If we all just gave in some capacity---whether it was locks of hair or whatever....

For what it's worth, my daughter did locks of love...it made me feel proud

Actually it does not have to be natural. The only thing that they won't accept is if it is bleached and dyed. But if it hasn't been bleached they will accept it.

What an inspirational way to start off the New Year :D:D:D

My 13 yr. old DGD donated her hair, also. She was so proud of what she did she said she was going to do it again. I was so proud of her unselfishness.

I hardly ever post, but just had to jump in and say what an awesome resolution you made - I'm so inspired to try to do the same.

The people on this board amaze me more every day - what a super bunch of people.

auntiehenno 01-06-2011 07:05 AM

Bless you dear lady! My friend in SD, is growing her hair long again to do the same.!!

rahaube 01-06-2011 06:17 PM

What a wonderful idea. I hope you are equally as pleased throughout the year as God shows you other things you can do. This is a promise we could all make to ourselves.

brushandthimble 01-06-2011 06:37 PM

My promise is to my to send quilts to him to hand out to the guys he is stationed with in Afganistan. I have 2 in the works and would like to have 6 in the mail as soon as I possiably can.

nativetexan 01-06-2011 07:42 PM

good for you. recently an ex-coworker told me she shaved her hair off to give to a place to make wigs from. but she just dumped it into a plastic bag. no rubber bands or anything. all for nothing it seems. they can't use loose hairs like that.

zz-pd 01-07-2011 02:06 AM

That is such a beautiful thing to do, last year at Thanks giving a wonderful lady on the board sent me thirty dollars to help us feed our family dinner. the kids next doors car broke down, and one of my boys were using my car at the time, because his was down, she came over and asked if we could take her to the store, I told her hubby would be going in a little bit, and asked her what she needed, that maybe I could save her money if I had it. she told me about there car problem and that she had to go buy thanksgiving dinner, because they were supose to go to a Aunts house.
So that $30.00 not only feed my family, but the kids next door too.
I do not have permission to say her name, but I sent her a thank you, because of her generosity I was able to help someone out, and it felt good to do that.
Thank you again my thanksgiving angel and God bless you.
Penny
