I just got an email that I had two sales on my Etsy shop tonight! Already paid for... I'll ship them out tomorrow. I was wondering when something was ever going to sell! I always wonder how people find you on there when there are so many talented sellers.

I was wondering the same thing on how they find you on Etsy like 600 pages of sales from others on there

ladyredhawk 01-18-2011 05:55 PM

I have a quilt on there and i hope I can sell it.

My daughter did all of her shopping for my Christmas shopping on Etsy. She bought me all owl related things that were SO cute. I bought her a few things too, a black cat soap and I got my son a Paul Newman t-shirt. I guess shoppers that appreciate hand made gifts know that Etsy is THE place to go! The search feature helps when looking for a specific item. I love shopping on Etsy. I just can't believe the things that you can find on there. But, sometimes it does take a long time to make a sale. I was very very lucky. The very first time I listed things on Etsy, my first item sold while I was listing my third! I think I had two sales that night and thought it was going to be really easy to sell there! I guess it helps when someone is watching the newly listed items scroll and they see something they like and are ready to buy! I had two really good sales as custom orders, too.

At Christmas time I somehow ended up with Etsy and Facebook talking to one another and I got recommendations for gifts for my facebook friends, based, I suppose, on their likes and interests as posted there. I thought it was a great idea! I guess that the sellers appeared in my recommendations because of the keywords they had entered beside their objects.

So if you want to sell something be sure to label it with the key words people might be looking for- not only "quilt" but other style words that relate to it that might bring people to your Etsy shop to see it. If I was looking for a quilted gift for someone on Etsy I might type in "stained glass window" or "kaleidoscope" or "spring colours" or "raspberry red decor"- I don't know how many tag words they let you add, but use them all!!

Zappycat 01-18-2011 06:21 PM

I know that they say that Facebook is a very good tool for advertising your Etsy shop, but I haven't figured out how to use it. I have on the other hand found old high school friends! haha! That's cool that you got gift recommendations that way, though. I have not seen that!

Yes, the tags are key! I use as many as I can think of and probably could still use more!

frugalfabrics 01-18-2011 06:21 PM

So what all can you sell on etsy? I've been hearing so much about it lately, but never have ventured more than a glance at it.

Zappycat 01-18-2011 06:23 PM

You can sell anything that you make personally, as well as supplies and vintage items. It's amazing what you can buy there!

Etsy is great!!! I have a shop and I've actually had people send convos of wanting personalized items. It's very easy to use and man...I can spend hours looking at all the stuff. I added your shop as a favorite!!! Good luck selling more! :)

Thanks Dotty! No... I still have not gotten in there. I really should have taken my daughter in when she was home from college. Its just that I am totally LOST in there! Maybe in springtime!
I am in Long Valley (northwestern NJ between Chester and Hackettstown).

Cool Dotty! What a great offer! Let me know dates and I think I would love to do that! Would especially love to meet you gals! : ) Thank you!

My daughter played soccer in Parsippany for several years and my older sister lived in Sussex county (in Stokes State Forest) working at the School of Conservation for many years (this goes WAY BACK!). There used to be a Ben Franklins in Hohokus. I sell to a shop there and I always used to stop there when I delivered there in person. What a fun place. Not sure if its still there. I usually always ship to her now.

Hi,
The quilt show is March 25-30. One private collection has 650 all red & white quilts. I can't imagine. Let's hope for good weather. You don't need to shop here. You probably have shops up there. I hear there is a nice fabric store on Rt 23 in Vernon. Maybe a drive for you.
Many years ago I worked in a fabric store in Parsippany called Gerta's Needlecrafts. I learned so much there, sewed everyone's prom dresses, and developed my love for remnants. I hope it works out that we can meet. Dotty

Zappycat 01-19-2011 09:19 AM

Thanks Dotty! I'll mark my calendar! All you'll need to do is tell me where to park. That's what scares me most! YEY! Something to look forward to!! : ) LOVE red and white!

I don't know the fabric shop in Vernon. I never get up that way, and never heard of Gerta's, but I sure do miss the Rag Shop that was in Parsippany! And remnants!? LOVE THEM!!! There used to be a great fabric shop in Flemington that sold wonderful decorator remnants. That's gone now too. : (

I was checking out the ETSY website and considering doing an ETSY shop but have some questions. I tried to find the answer to my question on their site but did not find anything. I see it says you can sell handmade items. I was thinking of putting some embroidered items on there. I bought some throws from Walmart and have been embroidering things on them. Since the throw itself was not made by me would I not be allowed to sell this item on Etsey? I also embroider on what they call blanks...I have new little girls T's that I embroider on and wonder if these would be allowed as a sale item as well. I will have to check out ETSEY a littlke more and see if there is somewhere I can email and ask about this to get these answers but thought I would ask here and see if any of you knew.... Thanks Corry

Zappycat 01-19-2011 11:31 AM

Corry,
I'm not sure about the answer... but if you look at the top of the Etsy page and click on COMMUNITY and then FORUM...it will take you to a forum where you can ask questions and you'll get the answers from Etsy people that would know the answer better than I would.

Yes, you are allowed to sell those. You can do a search for embroidered shirts and see all the ones people have up already. When you are listing an item you say if it is homemade or if it it a supply, vintage, ect.

frugalfabrics 01-19-2011 04:47 PM

ok, went to the site...seems a litte confusing to me....I guess I'll have to take more time to figure it all out.
