Does anyone know where to look to find out where your last name comes from?

I just Googled my last name + origin of name & got the answer for me

Thanks for the idea, never thought of doing that. Byrd is English, but my Byrd Grandma was German. Also found my married name and the old family coat of arms. Interesting, you can also order the embroidered coat of arms, possibly to applique it to a coat or purse or wall hanging.
