Need Help with Barbie Doll Patterns
 

A few years ago, I bought a bunch of barbie doll clothes patterns. I was thinking, with 7 granddaughters, I would need them. Well, they are the older patterns. some of the girls are really getting into playing with barbies and they want Grandma to make them clothes. I thought cool, I have patterns. I don't know why I googled about barbie doll patterns, but now, they make the barbie dolls fatter and 1/2" shorter. the shorter is no big deal. But the fatter waists are a problem. has anyone else tried to use old barbie patterns only to have them not fit? I don't want to spend a lot of time making these doll clothes and then they won't fit. Does anyone know how to adjust them to fit or should I just start all over ? Always something to drive me crazy. LOL Help is greatly appreciated. Thank you Rachel

I have been making doll clothes for years. I find they are usually a little on the large size any way. Get yourself one of the new dolls and try one of the patterns using muslim or some cheap fabric. Make the one outfit that seems to be the most fitted. You may just need to add a fraction to the waist or make your seams narrower.

thank you Tess Do you make barbie doll clothes? do you use any of the older patterns or do you just have the newer ones? they look so tiny and I worry I might not be able to master them. LOL Then when I was reading that the new barbies are fatter LOL and most say none of the old patterns from the old days, will fit them now. I have a couple nice patterns from when my daughter was little and she is 40 now. So I bet those patterns won't work? I would love to make her daughter some of the same clothes that I made for her when I was young. LOL I sure didn't know what I was doing back then. And my eyes are not too good anymore. Just hope I can figure this out so I can make my granddaughters some barbie clothes. LOL

Just the plain Barbie doll are fairly cheap and it is better to fit a model. Yes the pieces are small but just cut the pieces with a little larger seam allowance. Knit fabrics work well too because they stretch to fit. for fasteners, a little piece of Velcro is all you need and I hand sew a button on top for show.
They are definately a labour of love and if you can find a church bazaar that has them, even better!:D

Have fun! I made Barbie clothes for my DD (she is now 48) to match the outfits I made for her! No patterns, just a lot of trial and error! Didn't even know they had patterns back then.

If you search you may find some Barbie clothes made from baby socks. My DGDs LOVED making things from the socks all by themselves.

That sounds like fun! I tried sewing for Barbie when my daughters were at that age...OMG those small pieces...gave up quickly.....

Remember the goose on the front porches .....did a few of those too.........now, just quilts

I used velcro and split it lengthwise so as not to be so bulky. Just zigzag it where you would normally sew snaps. The fabric stores have patterns for 99 cents sometimes so that is when I buy doll cloth patterns.
