Does anyone have the link for the Singers with just one letter and then numbers? I've found one at a consignment shop...it's a teeny little thing. Not sure if it works but the lady says I can come back with fabric and try her out. Sits in a case with the round top lid but a little different than the coffin lid. Was $38.
Wanted to whip out my phone and take a picture but refrained. Didn't want to show too much interest...just saying!! Edited: Oh, couldn't find a pen or pencil in my purse, so just was able to memorize the letter and 3 #'s. They are G984.... |

Based on your desctiption of the machine, I'm going to say it's a 7 digit number. The six digit one in the G9 range is a 66 which is full size machine. The seven digit indicates a 128 born in February of 1923. The 128s are 3/4 size machines usually found in bentwood cases. Mine is a cutie. Be prepared to fall forward when you go to pick her up. That little darling weighs 29 pounds. Do not use the handle on the case - the handle is strong, but the hinges will need looking over. I often say that if Miss Mamie gets tired of being a sewing machine, she can have a second career as a boat anchor.

Could also be a 99...at any rate, whatever she is, for $38, she'd be sitting next to the White that I brought home today! :)

Ok, after my doctor's apt today, I'm returning to the thrift store to take a "second" look. If I get home and find her in the trunk of my car, I'll know she wanted to follow me home!!

Ok, I found her in my trunk when I got home...LOL Had my 4 yo DGD with me and when we were getting out, she said "Nana we need to get the sewing machine out"!!
It is a 128, Alloted 15,000 Feb 19, 1923. She's going to take some cleaning and a few parts (I don't have a clue where to start right now so Billy's tutes, here I come!!. :)) but she's here. The wheel turns freely and the needle goes up and down but the wires are too frail to attempt to plug in. If I don't get her going, I've found a guy that does refurbishing locally so off to him she will go!! Whew, she is heavy!! |
