I was informed today by the person running my volunteer camp this year that I need a positive song.

I have a huge song list on my Itunes, but I also would like to hear some of your suggestions. Please let me know what you like.

It can be old, new, or from a musical.

Thanks!

I immediately thought of this one:

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows by Leslie Gore

Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.
My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That's how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way
When you're in love to stay.
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together,
Brighter than a lucky penny,
When you're near the rain cloud disappears, dear,
And I feel so fine just to know that you are mine.
My life is sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
That's how this refrain goes, so come on, join in everybody!
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows,
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way
'Cause you're in love, you're in love,
And love is here to stay

How about the Hokey Pokey

You join hands and stand in a circle and sing.
Ya put your left foot in,
ya put your left foot out,
ya put your left foot in and shake it all about
Ya do the Hokey Pokey and ya turn yourself around
That's what it's all about.

then you do the right foot etc.

You look really young so didn't know if you knew this one or not.

America the Beautiful

Spoonful of Sugar
(or anything else from Mary Poppins)

Fiber Artist 07-09-2010 06:02 PM

Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Eric Clapton did a great version!

Alu_Rathbone 07-09-2010 06:04 PM

I like the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version (the one with the ukulele)

littlehud 07-09-2010 06:10 PM

"you are my sunshine". I sing it all the time at work and with my DGD. She got me a mothers day card that plays it because it is our song.

Walking on Sunshine is a happy song.

raptureready 07-09-2010 07:01 PM

Sing Happy Birthday for a few days and he or she'll get over it.

lab fairy 07-09-2010 07:44 PM

What kind of group is this? I think your song choice is going to depend on the audience. All the ones I've seen so far are really "girlie". I was a summer camp director for a Boy Scout summer program and our happy song was "My Port-a-Pottie" (sounded like the My Buddy doll jingle). Those boys REALLY loved their port-a-pottie.

Audience is everything.

b.zang 07-09-2010 07:46 PM

How about - "If You're Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands"
It can go on and on until nobody's happy anymore.

MissTreated 07-09-2010 07:47 PM

Who is the volunteer camp for? Some songs might have more meaning to women, than to children, for example.

Audience is everything.

We are group that teaches kids to be themselves, stay positive, stay off drugs, not to drink alcohol, and educate kids on how they can make a difference in their community. They are of the High School age group.

This years theme is Positivity.

High school age boys and girls. Last year we had kids walking around singing The Climb By: Miley Cyrus. Great positivity song!

Kaye-Kaye 07-10-2010 03:33 AM

Country song "Its a great day to be alive" I think by Travis Tritt.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-10-2010 03:49 AM

Alu- that's a nice thing you're involved in.
I just thought of a song I love by Dionne Warwick and Friends
That's What Friends are For
and one of the best songs ever is We Are the World !!!
Lots of great songs posted by the others :D
You sure are a busy person!!! :D:D:D

I'll second Walking on Sunshine, by Katrina and the Waves...it's upbeat, and since we're currently going retro with the 80s these days, it's perfect being an 80s song. Makes you want to sing, move, smile...at least when I hear it.

Second one that popped into my mind is Queen's You're My Best Friend. Was a really "up" song form me when I was in high school, and there's not too many people that don't like Queen.

RatherB Quilting 07-10-2010 06:23 AM

The Rainbow Connection.
