Not sure what to do....my dream since I was eight years old was to go to Yellowstone National Park and camp. I considered renting an RV since part of my idea was to camp, but it would be way too expensive to afford one for the whole way out and back. My other idea is to rent a van to go out, and maybe RV back. Do any of you know how I would arrange to do this? I would have to return the car and pick up an RV at the same time. Then I would have to give the RV back when I got home.

Maybe this is not a practical idea, but it might be the best of both worlds if I would be able to do it. I think that someone on this board is bound to live out there, or have been there and do e this before.

How about if you drive out and then rent a motor home when you get to Yellow Stone. They usually charge a flat rate for the week and then more for each additional mile. Check the website for national parks and maybe they have rental trailers. Go to the library and look at some of the camping books and they will give you ideas, websites and phone numbers. Sounds like a great idea.

I like the idea of driving out and then renting an RV once you get here. Bozeman is probably the closest large town where you could do that and is only 90 miles from Yellowstone. I have never done that so I don't know how you would proceed. But if you decide you are driving out this way, let me know. You would have to drive right by my house to get there. I have been to the park many times and might be able to help out in that aspect. When we go we usually just get a room in West Yellowstone and take day trips into the park.

That sounds like a wonderful trip.... the past several years we have stayed in cabins and cottages in the areas that we have visited and have been totally happy with the accommodations. Several of the places have daily maid service and the linens are supplied. When renting an RV the linens are often not included.... so you need to think about that.. Here is a link to a place that is very close to Yellowstone and looks great.. http://faithfulstreetinn.com/

I have no affiliation with this lodging facility - it looks like a place that I would consider - we are planning a trip to that area in the next couple of years so I was in the process of checking out the various options for our visit to the area. If you do an online search for lodging in the area of Yelowstone Park you can check out other possibilities.
Good luck in your search.
