Need Ideas for Dad's 60 Birthday

My dad just turned 59 on January 10th, 2013. I'd like to do something really special for him next year when he turns 60. Any ideas? I can make a quilt, I have plenty time to, but I'm open to other ideas as well. If I do make a quilt, I want it to be memorable somehow.

I saw a blog a while back that on her dad's 60th birthday, she had 60 people he knew write him a short letter, and she presented them to him in a lovely keepsake box. I'd like to do something along the lines of this-- I think he's sad about getting older, and I'd love for him to know how the world is a better place because he's in it.

Thanks in advance!

Honey, 60 isn't old! 90 is old.

I agree whole heartedly. I'll never see 60 again or ever 65 .

I know enough people over 95 that 90's not even old.

I definitely agree with you all-- age is a state of mind! :) His father started having bad health problems when he turned 60, so I think it stems from that.

I really want to do something moving. He's very introverted, so he would be too embarrassed by a surprise party.

Have 5 friends a month mail him a Happy 60th Birthday card, by the time Jan 10th, 2015 comes along he'll have his 60 cards! And he'll have fun each month wondering who he'll receive a card from this time.

This is a fun idea, maybe you can do something similar for your Dad only with a theme he would be interested in? http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t223648.html

If you do a quilt how about a photo of all his descendants.

For my BFF's 50th birthday, I sent her 50 birthday cards. I figured out when to start sending them, so she'd get 1 each day mail was delivered. She was quite puzzled why she was getting cards almost 2 months before her birthday. She finally figured it out.

My DH is going to be 56 this coming July! He was as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof when he was about to turn 49. His dad passed away at the age of 49 a couple of days before Christmas about 30 years ago. His father was a man with a very bad attitude on everything life. He blamed everyone and everything for his "misfortunes". DH almost was not my DH. A boat launch he was on went down in the Gulf of Mexico. God had plans for him and changed his own attitude to enjoy everyday he was given. When I reminded him of that he became a man with a younger attitude toward living. Just tell your dad "60" is the new 40-50.

My hubby will be turning 60 in September...he is really feeling old. Aches and pains from arthritis plus other health issues. I keep telling him that I will believe he is old when he hits 80. I'm only 1 1/2 years behind him...
BTW, today is my Dad's 83rd birthday...I bought him 5 Fanny Mae chocolate bars and a Lottery Ticket. He thought it was great...to bad he didn't win anything.
