Need recommendation for a magazine subscription (non-quilting)

I am looking for a good magazine to give to a family member as a Christmas gift. I want something in the area of gardening, small animal care, how to build things (i.e., decks, sheds), home care. I looked at a bookstore recently and found Mother Earth News and thought that might be a good one. Does anyone subscribe to that or have others to recommend?

Thanks.

Jill

A good magazine for gardeners who also love birds is Birds N Blooms. We love it. Have subscribed for years.

I agree with Joset,
Mother Earth and Hobby Farms are always an interesting read

Thanks for your help. I'd never heard of Hobby Farms and so I checked out their website. I think this one is a really good fit for my gift. I knew I could count on fellow quilters to help me!

Grit magazine is one that our family looks forward to each month. Lots of good articles, nice pictures, garden ideas, small farm, animals and much more.

We subscribe to Mother Earth News, great magazine for just what you need. Urban Farm is a newer magazine and that's also very good.

I've taken Garden Gate for years. It has nice pictures, good information and no advertisements.

I subscribed to Countryside magazine for years. I don't know if it is still being published. It's a fascinating magazine for gardening, homesteading, small farm animals, food prep, small building, and other.

Yes! It's still being published! I am renewing my subscription! Thanks for asking, I forgot how much I really liked this magazine. http://www.countrysidemag.com/

I love Mary Jane's Farm, have subscribed to it since it came out about 5 years ago:

I refuse to purchase most magazines anymore because they are pages full of drug ads. I'm not paying
for a magazine with even one pharmaceutical ad. Mary Jane's ads are related to life. I also like the Reiman
publications of which birds in bloom is one.

Have you tried Reiman Publiciations they have many interesting magazines.......one being Birds N Blooms but also have a good variety. Reminisce is another of their magazines which covers stories by readers from the 1940's on....
very interesting and takes one on a life's journey.
