Need some advice - Best way to wash suede?

Just got back from Joann's. Bought some beautiful black suede that I plan on making a nice tote bag for a friend. By the time all the discounts were taken, I got 2 yards for less than $8 after taxes.

But, it's in desperate need of washing. Any ideas? I have never washed suede before.

the cleaning directions should have been on the bolt. however, here is a link to a black suede from joann's and it gives cleaning instructions there. i'm not sure, though, if this is the same one you bought

Wow Nancy - that's smart thinking! I never thought to check their website.

This fabric was a red tag special marked down to $9 a yard and an extra sale sign saying 50 percent off of red tag price. Then I got 20 percent off of the total at the check out because I have a military ID card.

Back in my younger, hotter, skinnier days, I had 2 suede mini-skirts. They were dry clean only.

the ends of bolts generally tell you alot of information-besides the price-
laundering/care instructions, fiber content, width of fabric, thread count...always the best place to find out how to (tend) to the fabric you have purchased- you say suede---is it really suede? as in brushed leather made from hide?
or is it a polyester (sueded) fabric?
if you can not find it on the website you may be able to call the store & ask a sales associate to find it & give you the needed information.

I had a suede coat once. A cold wet cloth wiped in one direction (with the grain ? - can't think of the word) worked like a charm and dried nicely.

Thanks for all the wonderful price. By the feel of this suede, it is fabric suede. It went through the washer and dryer just fine.

When I wore it, I used a spray and then brushed it with a wire, suede brush.

I have a suede leather jacket and I toss it in the washer and hang it on a hanger to dry, then into the dryer to soften it up.I've been washing leather things for years and have never ruined any thing

cut a swatch of the fabric and wash it see how it does.

I don't think suede can be washed. (?)

Glad to hear it was machine washable. Machine washable suede is great. I have had a couple of washable suede blazers.

I think it is known as ULTRA SUEDE..washable because it's made from ''miracle'' fibers. Not leather suede, which can only be dry cleaned. My bro in law said he washed his 'brushed leather' coat (like suede) because "it is made from cow hide and cows stand in the rain and & it doesn't hurt their coat"!! I picked up several colors of ultra suede scraps at a yd sale & I plan to use them for trims on garments. You SURE made out like Flynn on your purchase.

If it's ultra suede, then it's washable..warm soapy water and a gentle spin....low dryer.

Had a coat once and was scared to death to put it in the washing machine........sat on pins & needles until the cycle was completed..it turned out beautifully.

but be sure that it's the ULTRA........
