Needing some sewing friends

Hi everyone!

It's been a crazy year with this whole pandemic! I've been busy -- homeschooling my son (14 years old) by choice which has been a real joy, working part time from home, and reading LOTS of books! In the evenings I've been working on a variety of kids quilts for the Linus project. So far I've been doing well just keeping busy.

It's been in the last few weeks that I realized I was getting lonely and missing connecting with people, especially supportive crafting friends. Then I remembered you all! It's been awhile since I visited here.

How's everyone doing? Anyone have suggestions on activities going on on the board that would be a good way to connect? I would love just to share photos with everyone and enjoy some general cheer! It's been awhile since I've done a swap...

Happy Sewing!
Kristi

Welcome back.

Welcome to the group!

In some ways, I do miss the activities of our LQS group and classes. The other side of me is quite happy to stitch at home and enjoy time with DH.

Welcome back Kristi! I find that I log in several times a day now. My Guild has started back and that's great. I'm hoping as people get vaccinated, more will attend.

It is good to see you again! Of course the pandemic has captured all of us in its grasp one way or another. I have stayed busy making quilts. I have completed 12 quilt tops and only quilted 2 of them. I am looking at one on the floor right now that I am hoping I can QAYG and complete it. I am getting ready to send several out to be LA'ed. None of the tops sitting here are very large which is very different for me but that is just how it is right now. Many will end up as charity quilts.
Being retired I have the luxury of planning my days around dr. appts and quilting. The majority of my time I have to my own vices. I choose quilting and spending time here and doing other online activities. I recently, a bit over a year ago, I bought an Accuquilt system and that has kept my quilt making into a very organized planning for making my quilts. I have enough different dies that I can make a different quilt every month for several years. That I am looking forward to.
It sounds like you have a full plate with home schooling and quilting. I understand the loss of contact with others. I plan to go to my first quilt guild meeting in months in just a couple weeks. I have had both vaccines now and using safe practices I feel safe going out now..
I hope this insures that you have quilting buddies and crafty friends here on the board. Do jump right back in and join the fun.

A big hello from the East Coast and Welcome Back! I understand the need for quilty friends. If you are interested in a more one to one approach please send me a pm. I'd love to chit chat and share pics with friends. I am unable to post photos as our internet is so dang slow in the rural area we live in. Farm life has its advantages but fast internet isn't one of them:-)

Welcome back to the quilt board. I have been so glad to have my quilting to keep me busy this past year. I use to knit and crochet in the evenings while my DH watched TV but the arthritis in my hands has ended that. Thank goodness, I can still quilt and check in here to find out what is happening and learn some new things.

Thanks everyone! Just seeing everyone's responses put a smile on my face! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png Thank you all for being here. I shared a Dresden sunflower block that I made today on another thread and commented on a few other posts. I think checking in with you all on the board will be good! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I have my first vaccine and will get the 2nd on Apr 24th. My 14 year old, though, is too young at the moment. We are hoping with the positive studies that the vaccines will be approved for teens here soon! Glad some of you have been able to be back at your guilds. I miss going to quilt shows! One of our yearly treks as a family was to drive to the 'big city'. I went to the Quilt Show and my DH and DS went to the model train show!

Coincidentally, I saw a recent post from you on a thread a day or two ago and thought to myself...I haven’t seen Kristijoy post in quite sometime, I wonder what she’s been up to.

welcome back, it’s nice to have you back. I’m sure it has been a juggle working from home and home schooling. I’m glad to hear that you have still been able to squeeze in some quilting projects.

Greetings! Glad you found your way back. It's great that you are getting your vaccine!

I'm not familiar with the swaps since I don't participate in those.

There are at least two BOM threads going on now. It's not too late to join in.

Old School BOM:

This just warms my heart so much! Maybe it was your thought that was calling to me! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

I would have been very depressed if stuck at home for a year. so I admire you. My guild missed April, May and Nov- March meetings, not too bad. My sewing group has kept each other sane. We met twice a month all last year at each other's home to sew for a day. I loved being with family and grands but I have to have time to enjoy my time too, I think everyone needs that.

Kristi, I wondered what happened to you! So glad you're back :)

Welcome back. This quilting board has kept me sane and enjoying everyone's company and chit chat about quilting and other crafts. I feel we are all in this together and need to support each other even if it is by computer.

Hi Kristi, and welcome back from Southern California. I've felt lonely at times, too and decided to do something about it. I contacted a small group of art quilter friends and we've had zoom meetings. That was a big help. I also watched YouTube tutorials to learn something new. I hope you and your family (and the rest of us) will be fully vaccinated soon and be able to get our lives back to normal.
