Needle Punching Cloth?

Hello! You all have been so very helpful to me with all my questions. I thank you all very much! I have yet another question and this time it is about needle punching.

Was wondering what other kinds of cloth can be used besides weavers cloth when needle punching.
Also, what do you use to draw your own design on the cloth? Pencil? Stamps? Carbon Paper?
Thank you so much!:D

Thank you for your reply. I did google. But I like to hear what you all would recommend and what experience you all have had with different cloths and if you have already tried some things and how your experiences was with it. It just seems more personal to get helpful info from people that you always learn something from and love to come and read about everyday on the boards. No one sews in my family and the ones that did have all passed and I came along so much later that I didn't get to learn from them. That's why I like to ask and learn from you all too.
I aplogize for so many questions:(

I have used tightly woven cotton...good muslin and even wool...if you try a fabric and not happy with it..try placing your pattern onto interfacing and pinning that to the fabric you want to use...

I did t shirts but had to put a good stabilizer on underside of shirt to keep from making holes in shirt I used carbon paper to trace pattern.
