thimblebug6000 11-28-2016 11:30 AM

Very cute! Haven't heard of needle tatting, do you do it similar to using the shuttle?

Geri B 11-28-2016 11:54 AM

That is almost a lost art...

[QUOTE=thimblebug6000;7708167]Very cute! Haven't heard of needle tatting, do you do it similar to using the shuttle?[/QUOTE. I looked up needle tatting on YouTube and there are several videos. I taught myself just by watching and experimenting. Try it, it's fun!

Neat embellishments! My grandmother tatted too. I have several lovely doilies she made.

pahega 11-29-2016 04:21 AM

I love tatting! I don't know the difference between needle tatting and tatting with a shuttle, but it is on my list to learn. Your work is just beautiful!

julybaby8 11-29-2016 06:04 AM

I've always wanted to learn to do tatting. Cute bugs.

zennia 11-29-2016 06:08 AM

Love your tatting. I have tried several times with no success . Probably because i am a lefty and everyone else is a righty

miriam 11-29-2016 06:49 AM

Zennia, I've tried it, too. I'm right handed and had no better luck. When I was a kid my Great Aunt Bertha used to tat so fast you couldn't see her hand. She made hankies and sold them for $1 each all proceeds went to missions. She tried to teach me once but her hand kept moving... I never did learn a thing from her. My mom said she had no better luck. A friend sort of showed me how to needle tat. I think I kind of get it now but I needed more time sitting next to my friend. It really helped to use string so I could see it but it also needs to be somewhat smooth so it slides nice.

You make me think of getting out the doily I started needle tatting a few years ago! It's a large one and about 3/4 finished but my hand was hurting so badly that I had to put it away for a while (a long while?)

tessagin 11-29-2016 07:48 AM

Love your work. I have shuttles and a needle. Haven't used since I was a little girl. belonged to my paternal grandmother. She did beautiful work. She would tat pulls at the bottom of her shades with weights. I always thought she bought them that way. then found out she also made her own window shades. grandpa would make the mechanism spring for them. She hand dressed every window in her home. Your work brings back good memories! Thank You for sharing!!

tessagin 11-29-2016 07:51 AM

Some tatters could do both some had a preference.

You've given inspiration to get my tatting needle to work again! I'm just a beginner, but your lovely work shows you to be an expert.

Such beautiful pieces! Truly a display of art!

caspharm 11-29-2016 04:08 PM

They are pretty.

I would love to learn to tat, I don't know anyone in my community that does tatting. I have an old tatting shuttle that was either my great grandmother's or my grandmother's, I found it in some of my mothers things when she passed away. My mother didn't tat but could crochet faster than anyone I have ever seen. I purchased a tatting book with instructions, but just can't seem to get the hang of it. don' usually have trouble with reading most instructions, but just can't seem to put things together when it comes to the tatting I will try viewing some of the you tube videos and see if I can learn. I learned to crochet over the telephone from my mother in the 60's so I maybe I can learn to tat from watching a video,

Angelsg123 11-30-2016 04:58 AM

I love love love your mini with the needle tatting. I love needle tatting as well. Great job!!

maryfrang 11-30-2016 05:57 AM

My grandmother tatted with a shuttle. She taught my sister and I to tattle tat, but it was too long ago. I have her shuttles and left over thread, and some hankies that were never finished. I had never heard about needle tatting. I might just try it. Great work and love all the little pieces.

tessagin 11-30-2016 06:29 AM

Saw a friend yesterday and didn't know she tatted. She said it's one of her favorite "busy bag/go bag" projects and easy to keep in your purse.

DonnaC 11-30-2016 07:07 AM

There's a great tatting course on Craftsy. I was never able to figure it out until I took the course! Reminds me that I should start doing it again... it's really fun.

I want to learn how to do needle tatting. Since I am a lefty any ideas on where to start? Has anyone found any good books on the subject of lefty tatting:)? I looked at a couple of videos on YouTube so far. I bought a set of tatting needles and a spool of Crochet thread to practice with.

Up North 12-19-2016 06:05 PM

I learned to tat in high school from an elderly lady bought the needles but never tried that method. I also taught 4 H girls to tat and designed a doily for my youngest student who never got the hang of two threads. It is like riding a bike once you learn it it is easy to pick up and it is a great small space project

cashs_mom 12-19-2016 07:11 PM

How pretty! My grandmother used to tat. I have her tatting shuttle but have no idea how to use it. I have some sheets and pillow cases that she made tatted edgings for. Really pretty.

Up North 12-19-2016 08:13 PM

tatting is fun but time consuming it is not all that hard to learn it is all about sliding the stitches and not making knots. that is why I always have a hatpin at my side
