New iPad user

Well I di d it and here I am using it now. It does have a bit of a learning curve though, but I figured if my 2 1/2 yr old ggb can do this so can I! So here I go!!!

QuiltnNan 11-26-2012 05:51 AM

congrats on your new 'toy'. it amazes me how easily the young ones use these new electronics.

annthreecats 11-26-2012 06:29 AM

Have fun with it.

Maggiemay 11-26-2012 07:22 AM

I love my iPad! Definately a learning curve for this PC user, but worth it! My favorite app is Overdrive, where with your library card you can check out digital books from your library. I also like being able to screen shot recipes, quilts, etc & file them in my photos. I still go to my daughter for help!

Tartan 11-26-2012 09:49 AM

Congratulations! You can take pictures with it and post them directly to QB using the little paper clip icon if you start a new thread. You can add a picture from your camera roll to an existing thread by using the little tree icon(third from the right in the reply box icons). I have the Missouri Star Quilt Co. Ap and it is great. You can use it for an alarm clock. You can take a picture of what is on your screen and add it to your camera roll by pressing the round side button and the side bottom at the same time. Have fun!

BellaBoo 11-26-2012 08:24 PM

DH kept saying he didn't need an Ipad, his laptop was fine. I bought him an Ipad. It stayed on his desk for a long time before he started to use it, now he doesn't use his laptop much at all anymore. He said the same thing about a Kindle and now he doesn't go anywhere without his Kindle. In fact he bought another one that can be read in the dark with out a light. I have to drag him out of old fuddy duddy land or he would never get out. LOL.

Steady Stiching 11-27-2012 05:43 AM

I'd love one...but doesn't the Ipad replace the kindle?
My DD got the Ipad mini and is having a great time with it.

Thanks for the tip on uploading pictures. I tried it a year ago but I think they've changed buttons now so it really works. This sure makes my life easier!

I bought my Ipad about four months ago and I love it. I use it on a daily basis.

coopah 11-27-2012 06:20 AM

The iPad is how I do all my QB things, email, photos, maps for trips, and just about everything. There is an app (application) called "iPad tutorials." My nephew found it and installed it on my home screen. I think he Googled it...he programs computers, so he does all this quickly, but think you can find it. If not, go to the store where you purchased the iPad and they'll help.

Geri B 11-27-2012 08:40 AM

thanks for all these "places" to go.........I hope I can find them, but I think I am going to have to use a "timer" so I don't spend too much time "playing"

BellaBoo 11-27-2012 08:53 AM

Our Kindles are our dedicated library. I have the Kindle Fire and DH has Kindle Keyboard and Kindle paperwhite. If you have to choose one, get the Ipad, more computer features.

kathbug 11-27-2012 09:38 AM

cherrio 11-27-2012 12:46 PM

I watch my 20 month old grandson use his mom's daily. he showed me how to turn it on! amazing the way it comes so natural to the young ones. enjoy yours!!

pjnesler 11-27-2012 02:59 PM

I'm still dreaming of getting one, I already have 2 Ipods that I use all the time - download audio books to listen to while quilting - enjoy!

FabricHeaven 11-27-2012 07:08 PM

I have also had one for about four months and each night I climb into bed with it and catch up on the happenings with the QB. Love it:thumbup:

Lyncat 11-27-2012 07:10 PM

I love my iPad. There is a kindle app so if you already have a kindle all your books can move to the iPad, or iPod touch. I always have a book in my purse with my iPod!

nstitches4u 11-27-2012 07:21 PM

Congrats on your new toy. You are going to love it. I hardly ever use my laptop any more. It is so much easier to just grab the iPad.

duckydo 11-27-2012 07:39 PM

I just got mine this week end. We go to South Texas in the winter time.. and my girlfriends back home were quilting today and we use the facetime app and we were able to see each other and we just cracked up.. I used the reverse on the camera and was able to give them a tour of our trailer.. I am still on a learning curve too.

kathyd 11-27-2012 08:04 PM

I've had mine for almost a year and yes it is wonderful. As someone here on the QB told me there is a website called www.pixelsofink.com. Free books everyday, and lots of them with a good variety. You should check it out. A lady I work with got hers on Friday and also loves it. Lots of things that you can do with it from surfing the web to reading and playing games. DGD loves to play with the photo booth her favorite is the color option and the "X-Ray" option :) Enjoy yours.

Pam H 11-27-2012 09:23 PM

I haven't had mine long so still a lot to learn. I really like it for taking notes which I discovered at the Houston quilt show and I didn't have any paper or pen with me but had my i-Pad since I had been taking pictures with it. The calendar is pretty cool and I sat one night and put a bunch of stuff on it but now can't figure out how to add more. LOL I haven't tried facetime but it works well for skype. I was hoping there would be several pages on this post so I could learn about a bunch of apps. I know there is a really cool app for designing quilts but my friend was showing me before I got mine.

Ladyjanedoe 11-27-2012 09:47 PM

My husband gives technical speeches for certain computer vendors and the swag is unreal. In September he received the newest iPad and he gave it straight to me. I love it! I watch my Craftsy quilting classes on it and it's super cool to follow fantasy football with. Seems like they have an app for just about everything . Enjoy.

mary quite contrary 11-28-2012 04:29 AM

Like many of you I am learning and enjoying playing with my new ipad. I giggle at the way it wants to "help" with spelling sometimes. I agree about the learning curve but worth the time. I understand the calendar someone mentioned (the little plus sign in the lower right hand corner will allow you to add events) but I have no idea where the app with the tree? on it is so I can do something with pictures. I have taken pictures nothing more. Enjoy!

coopah 11-28-2012 05:23 AM

Mary quite, are you meaning the icon of the tree for posting pictures on QB? If so, it is at the top of the reply box where you type your message. It is the 3rd icon from the right. Other than that, no idea about tree apps! :-)

Geri B 11-28-2012 06:14 AM

Yes, there is indeed a learning curve w/this thing. I managed to download a free solitaire game......A step in the right direction.....but it seems to do so many things according to the posts here...is there a website for iPad users to share info....I wish there was manual w/it. Oh, there is a pamphlet in the box w/Ipad, but I tell you the print is soooo very small one needs a magnifying glass to read it!!!!!!!!I guess that is cost effective.............I like the idea of transferring my kindle books to iPad.......will have to figure out how.........bye for now......

Bottle Laker 11-28-2012 02:26 PM

Mine is still in the box - unopened. One of these days will be brave and start learning how to use it :)

judy363905 11-28-2012 06:27 PM

We had our beginning IPad class at Apple Store this am...wow those young people are sure smart and so very patient..there were 6 senior citizens there and the hour went so fast... we can attend more classes. We were told different instructors teach different and we should return as often as we like... My dh and I will be back for sure. check our Pandora if you like music.. free app - installed it and had lovely Christmas music today :)

My DH bought me one for my birthday I'm learning how to use it S L OW L Y

coopah 11-29-2012 05:08 AM

If you go to www.apple.com/support/ipad/ the screen will show a menu on the left side that has items that are labeled ipad support and lists things like : welcome, get started, and so on. My nephew showed it to me and he put it on my screen for me. Or you could bookmark it. It does look easy to learn, but then it's always fun to learn with others at the store. Have fun. QB and my iPad rule!

Oregon Coastie 12-01-2012 12:42 PM

Geri, if you use your built-in Safari app, select Bookmarks on the top left bar, and scroll all the way to the bottom, you will find the manual/users guide for your iPad. It is invaluable and most new iPad owners seem unaware that they have it!
