New Ironing Board Cover

2 Attachment(s)
I am sooo pleased with myself. My old ironing board cover was old and nasty looking. Yesterday I was ironing a piece of fabric and I said to myself this fabric would make a very eclectic ironing board cover. Best of all the fabric is 60" wide. Rather than removing the old cover I just covered it up by tucking the edges of the new fabric underneath and safety pinning it. Worked like a charm. I think I still have about five yards of this vary garish fabric. It was a thrift store find and as I remember it cost me about $1 a yard.

Very pretty & you did a great job!

Because I do a lot of pressing and use starch, I mess up a cover quickly, so... I use obsolete fabric and just drape over the work surface and continue til its brown and place another piece of fabric over it It's another attempt at reducing my stash of fabric.
Just heard about locker hooking which utilizes fabric woven into latch hook webbing and secured w yarn Proponents of this method reccommend using quilt patterns for designing rugs Another way to reduce stash and use up leftover yarn from years of crochet.

nicely done.... not garish at all from a distance

That looks so cool!

kmby0418 03-17-2013 12:33 PM

that looks great..any one have an idea on how to make a new padding for the top? mine is so thin now that I get marks in my fabric when I iron on it.

The fabric looks great as an ironing board cover. I re-covered mine a couple years ago and it is due for a new one again. And what a perfect way to use up fabric that will never go in to a quilt.

Well believe it or not Sheri, I am using some of the fabric to make a sampler quilt. Someone will love it and the colors. Maybe even me when I am done with it.

Love it. I was going to say a stack and whack would be beautiful in this fabric.

I use an old mattress pad to make new pads for my ironing board. I also use drop cloth fabric to make new ironing board covers. These are held on the board with a draw string so I can take them off and wash them when they get starch build up.

I thought I would post pics of the first two sampler blocks that I am making with this fabric for the QB 2013 BOM. I know this fabric, Patch of Roses by Hampton Print Works, was curtain or drapery fabric but it will be happy to live out it's life in a quilt.

luvstoquilt 03-18-2013 06:20 AM

What a great idea! I know what you mean...my new cover is already stained and looks nasty!

quiltmom04 03-18-2013 06:25 AM

It's very cute! Did you test it to make sure the inexpensive colors won't run if you steam something?

The fabric had been washed prior to my purchase. And I also washed it with a color catcher after getting it home. No problems at all with bleeding colors.

I use a layer of cotton batting and top it with thermoweb to replace the padding on my ironing board.

How about a valance for your window of the same fabric? Ta-Da, new room!

Susanna10 03-18-2013 08:33 AM

Love the fabric. Makes ironing less boring.

If I have enough fabric left over from the BOM, I will consider your suggestion pal.

gramquilter2 03-18-2013 09:14 AM

Looks great and will really brighten up your room.

quiltstringz 03-18-2013 09:31 AM

Looks great - sure to be the best board in the neighborhood!

nannyrick 03-18-2013 09:39 AM

Great cover. Looks great.

Glenda m 03-18-2013 06:32 PM

Your cover looks great!
I bought a new cover a while back. Was doing some steam pressing and noticed my fabric looked funny. The cover has blead over on my fabric! You wouldn't think ironing board fabric would do that, but this sure did. It got returned in a hurry. Make my own from now on.

bibi 03-18-2013 07:19 PM

It sure looks like a lovely ironing cover.

quilt queen 03-19-2013 03:19 AM
